Shadow eyes Soundtrack: blog tour + Kindle Giveaway

My Soundtrack for Shadow Eyes
Shadow Eyes Blog Tour and Kindle Fire Giveaway

Thank you for hosting me, Brandi!  I love how music can add so much to a movie, and since books are essentially movies in your head, I thought it might be kind of awesome to picture Shadow Eyes in your head with a soundtrack!

(Everyone, don’t forget to enter the rafflecopter below for a chance to win a print copy of Shadow Eyes, your full name in the sequel, and a KINDLE FIRE!)

Let’s check out the synopsis for Shadow Eyes first, so you’ll have a better idea of why I chose these songs.
Shadow Eyes

Iris Kohl lives in a world populated by murky shadows that surround, harass, and entice unsuspecting individuals toward evil.  But she is the only one who can see them.  She’s had this ability to see the shadows, as well as brilliantly glowing light figures, ever since an obscure, tragic incident on her fourteenth birthday three years earlier.

Although she’s learned to cope, the view of her world begins to shift upon the arrival of three mysterious characters.  First, a handsome new teacher whose presence scares away shadows; second, a new friend with an awe-inspiring aura; and third, a mysterious and alluring new student whom Iris has a hard time resisting despite already having a boyfriend.

As the shadows invade and terrorize her own life and family, she must ultimately revisit the most horrific event of her life in order to learn her true identity and become the hero she was meant to be.

1.    “Coma” by Jake Dickerson

This one doesn’t have lyrics, but I’m obviously going to choose it because it’s the song on my book trailer.  J  It was actually written by a former student of mine who is basically a musical genius.  He composed it, played and recorded the instruments, and meshed it all into this awesomely eerie, tense, and dark song that just fits the mood of the overall book so well!  THIS is Shadow Eyes’ theme song.  Check it out!

2.    “About to Fall” by The Wrecking

She's waiting for someone to save her
Waiting for an angel looking for some hope
The streetlights that flicker over her head
Are making scary shadows
She wants to hurry home
(This is perfect because Iris is, although she doesn’t realize it, waiting for someone to save her…an angel perhaps?  Also, the scary shadows part?  Come on, how perfect is that!)

You got to think this over
Isn't everyone
Pretending they're alright
Isn't everyone
About to fall
(This is great too because Iris is constantly pretending she’s okay, from trying not to dwell on that incident from her 14th birthday to having to pretend to not be freaked out by seeing shadows.)

Overall, excellent song for Shadow Eyes!

3.    Stand in the Rain by Superchicks

The first verse mentions shadows like the last song, but the second verse is even better:
She won't make a sound
Alone in this fight with herself and the fears whispering if she stands she'll fall down
She wants to be found
The only way out is through everything she's running from wants to give up and lie down.
(She doesn’t tell anyone about what she can see or what she’s going through, so she feels like she’s alone in this fight with her own emotions.  But the last part is a total foreshadowing of the ending!)

[CHORUS]
So stand in the rain
Stand your ground
Stand up when it's all crashing down
You stand through the pain
You won't drown
And one day, what's lost can be found
You stand in the rain
(There’s a part in the book where she’s driving in a blizzard – not exactly rain, but still - and she’s being harassed by a shadow.  It’s pretty intense!  I can totally see that scene in my head when I hear this chorus!)

4.    “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” by Kylie Minogue

I don’t know that I really need to explain this one…just think Patrick!

5.    “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissettte

I am a child of the 90s and adored this song in high school when it came out with the movie City of Angels!  Actually, I loved a lot of Alanis Moressette’s songs back then.  Besides the lyrics, the eerie, mysterious feel of this song is very similar to Jake Dickerson’s Coma (#1) and fits the book well!

Like anyone would be
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot-blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave
But you, you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
(Due to Iris being with another guy and then Patrick being all mysterious and confusing, this is kind of how Iris feels about Patrick.  It’s like she knows she shouldn’t be attracted to him, but she simply can’t help it.)

6.    “Shooting Star” by Owl City

I absolutely LOVE this song!  I can’t say enough how awesome of a fit it is for the ending of Shadow Eyes too!!!  I was trying to find one more song that fit the hopefulness of the ending, and this one fit the bill perfectly!  I mean, if you read my book, right after you read the ending, you should immediately play this song – mixed with the gratifying closure of the ending, it’ll lift your spirits and have you shining for days (no pun intended, well, kind of)!  You’ll obviously have to read the book to truly grasp this one, but here’s a tidbit of the lyrics to give you at least the flavor of the ending.  And that is what I will leave you with.  J

Way up in the air, you're finally free, and you can stay up there, right next to me.
All this gravity will try to pull you down, but not this time.

When the sun goes down, and the lights burn out,
Then it's time for you to shine.
Brighter than the shooting star, so shine no matter where you are.
Fill the darkest night, with a brilliant light,
'cause it's time for you to shine.
Brighter than a shooting star, so shine no matter where you are, tonight.
