She thinks she might have found it in San Francisco, but all that changes when she witnesses a terrible crime.     I wanted to read Surviving Ice because I have enjoyed the other books in the Burying Water series, as well as Tucker's Ten Tiny Breaths series. I like her hot romances, and characterization.

Ivy is a wanderer and is just thinking about putting down some roots when she witnesses a crime and she is all of the sudden scared and wanting to leave again. But she has obligations and she feels the responsibility to help handle some of the fall out after losing her mentor and friend.

Sebastian is on the other end of the spectrum, and Ivy has no idea what he knows and what he is after when they meet and he seems to connect with her. Their romance may or may not survive what the other knows and what they don't know is in fact hurting the other.

It was hard to see when Ivy didn't know things abut Sebastian, and that he is having to lie to her or tell half truths. But they had so much chemistry and in a short amount of time found themselves depending on the other and entertaining thoughts of settling down where such things didn't really cross their minds before.

It was a nice read and the mystery figuring out how Ned was involved and if Sebastian is going to have to push his morals in order to do his job.

Bottom Line: Nice chemistry and premise.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Have you ever witnessed something that could put you in danger?

Succubus Revealed (Georgina Kincaid #6) by Richelle Mead

Oh wow. I can't believe that this is the last book about my beloved Georgina. I have said a lot in the years that I have been blogging that I need to wait until all of the books in a series came out until I read it (ha. Ha. ha. Yeah, not going to happen, too many beauties) but this is the perfect example why. I have been able to binge read this and my head is so full of Seth and Georgina plus the rest of this beautifully crafted cast of secondary characters.

Not even sure how coherent and not fan girly this review will be but here we go:

Once we got into the heart of the story it started going after a breakneck pace that I'm used to. Of course there are surprises like stuff with the family and the transfer of course was mentioned in the synopsis but it's still a huge change just as it seems like Georgina and Seth have figured out something some normalcy for their relationship

It's hard to see in Georgia enough so upset about leaving and knowing that seth wants to be around for Andrea and the girls who we have all come to love especially Kayla.

There are of course questions and it seemed like the transfer was really rushed so of course Georgina follows her gut and it does seem like something more what's going on then what could be looked at as just a normal transfer. she's been in Seattle for quite a while after all. On there newly reformed relationship.

Oh my gosh she is a genius. I'm nearing the end of the book and everything is perfect. From the first page of the first book all the details that were there are just come in together and its just like a puzzle that is so beautiful. I am loving loving loving it she is providing such a good closure and I'm just so excited to finish reading it but I just had to put in my paragraph being all fan girl.

We get to see carter in this new magnificent light and the way that he is with the Mortensen's the girls and Andrea she's so sick just the things that he does and his willingness to really stand up for good it's just beautiful and I love it. Also the way that he is helping Georgina and then somehow he's just been such a good friend and caring for her even when he's an angel and she is an agent of hell

All the details from the plot line with Erik everything that he knew to his unfortunate ending all lines up. Roman Roman has come full circle and its me to sleep even though he still hiding himself from a lot of people he's been able to get into Georgina's inner circle and really just become her friend and put some of their not so fortunate past behind them and really help her out

Along with all the intrigue and just wrapping up a the transfer beautiful story lines there still the humor and the snark that I've come to love and expect. Of all things Jerome is trying to prove that his crew in Seattle is better than Nanette's and the way that they're settling it is of course a bowling competition I mean really. All of these servants of hell with the exception of occasionally having Carter around are having a bowl off. From the weird way that we transfer papers came to Georgina and how the transfer seem to be so rushed to her weekend in Las Vegas. She had such a good time plus she was hired for a Vegas dancing position and her old boss Lewis was the supervisor there when the addition of the presence of Bastion her longtime friend. it all comes together as them covering something huge up and we get the hint of what the something is that they're hiding.

When the big reveal of the plot line of her contract and something being off about that starts to come out I wanted to do a little dance and scream because somehow it never really crossed my mind that it was a possibility but it was just so so perfect.

So just too kind of highlight and show what kind of wonderful writing there is and kind of sum up this book. Here's a quote from one of the last page: "a sacrifice born of love is almost as powerful a thing as a redeemed soul, both of them are blows to hell."

Oh man, that epilogue and that ending oh my gosh it could not have been more perfect and made me want to cry and I loved it and it was beautiful and it was everything I wanted, it was perfect. In short, she's a genius.

Bottom Line: Perfect ending, Mead is a genius.

Waiting on Wednesday, WoW

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. I also feature books that may have already released, but I am anxiously waiting to read.

This week, I'm featuring:
Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here
If Amy Schumer and Rainbow Rowell had a baby, she’d be Anna Breslaw. Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here is a witty, hilarious, heartwarming novel that’s perfect for fans of David Arnold’s Mosquitoland and Maria Semple’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette?

Meet Scarlett Epstein, BNF (Big Name Fan) in her online community of fanfiction writers, world-class nobody at Melville High. Her best (read: only) IRL friends are Avery, a painfully shy and annoyingly attractive bookworm, and Ruth, her pot-smoking, possibly insane seventy-three-year-old neighbor.

When Scarlett’s beloved TV show is canceled and her longtime crush, Gideon, is sucked out of her orbit and into the dark and distant world of Populars, Scarlett turns to the fanfic message boards for comfort. This time, though, her subjects aren’t the swoon-worthy stars of her fave series—they’re the real-life kids from her high school. Scarlett never considers what might happen if they were to find out what she truly thinks about them...until a dramatic series of events exposes a very different reality than Scarlett's stories, forever transforming her approach to relationships—both online and off.

I wanted to read this because I love all things Twilight and I had to have anything that Stephanie writes in the universe. I went in with mixed expectations, I mean, I adore the series, the movies, and even on a re-read after years of blogging, it still made my heart beat harder and love the romance and storytelling. I still love Twilight. Its not without its issues sure, but it fired up my love for reading again, and so many people will say the same thing. Yes, there is a lot of hate, but there is also over the moon sales.  But I also have read quite a few things that did not paint this newest installment in any sort of positive light. I have another Twihard friend in real life who isn't even going to give it a shot, so while I didn't doubt I would read it, I wasn't sure how I would feel about it.

So here's what I think: I am not super impressed because for the most part it seems cut and copied with just the names changed, so I am skimming for new material. Some of the cut and copy is a bit awkward coming from a boy's pov. The thing that got the biggest response from me was the fact that she changed the classic of three things I am certain. I mean if you aren't going to change much, don't change some of my favorite words, even if its from Beau.

Some of the differences include-- Beau is not quite as angsty, his character has a bit more humor. Of course the scene in Port Angeles is different, but it still gets Edythe's attention and Beau was in danger. Some of the interactions with Charlie was changed and made it work a bit better with father/son dynamics. Also, no love triangle-- not that there was much of that in the 1st Twilight, but the ending is changed in this one, because since genders are changed, the course of the next books would be completely altered.

One major part was altered, and it made a lot of sense why this part was changed. I liked the alternate and even though I think some un-necessary details were added, where I wanted more of other things.

Bottom Line: Skimmed for differences, read if you are hard-core. It's acceptable but it's no Midnight Sun (which I would one hundred times over rather read the finished copy)

Are you going to read Life and Death?

Review: Rules for 50/50 Chances by Kate McGovern

Rules for 50/50 Chances by Kate McGovern
A heartrending but ultimately uplifting debut novel about learning to accept life's uncertainties; a perfect fit for the current trend in contemporary realistic novels that confront issues about life, death, and love.
Seventeen-year-old Rose Levenson has a decision to make: Does she want to know how she’s going to die? Because when Rose turns eighteen, she can take the test that will tell her if she carries the genetic mutation for Huntington’s disease, the degenerative condition that is slowly killing her mother. With a fifty-fifty shot at inheriting her family’s genetic curse, Rose is skeptical about pursuing anything that presumes she’ll live to be a healthy adult—including going to ballet school and the possibility of falling in love. But when she meets a boy from a similarly flawed genetic pool, and gets an audition for a dance scholarship in California, Rose begins to question her carefully-laid rules.

I wanted to read Rules for 50/50 Chances because I am drawn to books about illnesses, and Rose is dealing with a mom with a genetic disease called Huntington's, It is progressive and makes body function, memory and personality changes. Rose has a 50/50 chance of getting the illness, and there is a test she can take to tell if she is going to get it. Symptoms don't start until 30s at earliest, but it is still hard. She is a ballerina and she wants to study that in college, across the country, but her dad also wants her to study something besides dance.

I love Rose's personality. Yes, she has a hard time accepting how her mom is changing, her grandma that is living with them to help take care of her mom, and all of the constantly shifting dynamics with her family. Her struggles are easy to empathize with even if I don't have something equatable in my life.

At a walk for rare genetic disorders, she meets a boy named Caleb. His sisters and mom has sickle cell anemia, so he understands the difficulty of sick family. He also gets the medical jargon, the uncertainty, and so many other things that Rose doesn't really talk about with many other people. They have a sweet relationship, cute conversation, and a good connection. It adds another twist that they are different races.

I like the friendship between Rose and Lena, her best friend. They have that easiness that comes from years of friendship, but they have also been through lots of lows together. Lena's mom passed away, and soon after Rose's mom received her diagnosis.

The character growth in Rose was great, and it was neat to watch her figure out what she wanted for her future. This didn't just include knowing about her genetics test, but also her ballet future, the possibilities for her relationship with Caleb, how her friendship with Lena would survive. But also how she could still be there for her family, and her mom who gets continues to get worse not only in loss of control of movements, but the change in her personality and memory.

The ending was good but I also wanted to know a bit more about what she chooses and what her future holds for her. I totally understand why it left the way it did, with more understanding and a lot of hope for her, possibilities and acceptance.

Bottom Line: Intense ride with good characters.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Would you want to know if you could take a test that would let you know if you would develop a serious disease but there wasn't anything you could do to change it?

I wanted to read this one because I was interested in the premise of the car accident and scars, and to top that off, I loved Courtney's first book Faking Normal

I absolutely adored this one. From the messy emotions of losing a close friend in a crash the she survived while in the same car, to the scars that adorn her whole body including her face. She is brave to me but she is self conscious of her appearance. She doesn't want to show skin or do much outside the house when people are around. But she begins to meet her goals by doing things like running in shorts at night, and then she makes so much progress when max comes back home.

It is a complicated dynamic because he is her long time friend but also Trent (the dead friend's) brother. He looks so much like Trent used to and some of same mannerisms but he is his own person.. He had been in el Salvador with his parents but he has been emailing with Sadie the whole time. They found solace in one another and a safe place to share memories, and pain, and help each other heal.

I loved their easiness together, the way they could communicate unspoken but could also say what was on their mind without worry of being judged. They are sweet together, and my respect level for Max in how he treats her is through the roof. He challenges her in a good way, but also realizes that she has limitations and he supports her and gets her out of holding her hand as an act of solidarity doesn't work.

He sees the girl Sadie is and who she is on the inside. Sadies ex boyfriend can't even look her in the eyes anymore and cheated with Sadie sort of ex best friend. Grey tries to fix things but it is to far gone especially since he had a hard time sticking by her with her surgeries, rehab, and changed appearance.

There is a mystery mixed in with all of this too. Sadie has a stuffed animal that she took the stuffing out and over the years she has written little notes in it-- everything from angst, to secrets. And someone has been typing papers that say verbatim things that she wrote and put in the stuffed animal. She isn't sure if its a taunt or if it is meant to be a comfort. That said, the character development and complicated relationships are what drives the story and what makes me love it.

I liked how much her parents were a part of Sadie's healing and life. They are friends with Max's parents as well, and the families spend time together. Sadie's mom is good at encouraging her, knowing when to push her and when to coddle and cuddle a bit. Along that lines, I also liked that she had other healthy for her relationships with other adults. Sadie's therapist had a positive impact on her, and she also spent time with a guy at the junk yard where Trent's car was kept and they would do scavenger hunts, and he helped her look differently at life, and was a constant presence and another that she doesn't mind if he sees her scars.

I loved the ending and how everything wrapped up. The growth that Sadie had, what she realized about loving others, forgiveness of them and of herself, the importance of the truth even when it can cut like a knife.

Quotes I really liked that show things I love about the book:
"Maybe forgiving ... wasn’t letting go of what they’d done or dulling it down. Maybe forgiveness was giving the past less power to hurt me. Or even building new memories that were stronger than the painful ones. We’d done a little bit of that tonight."
"Max McCall keeps surprising me with his strength... I imagined a parallel universe where there was another version of me. That me had a Big, some excellent resolve, and wrote things like that about herself: Today, I surprised myself with my own strength."

Bottom Line: Emotional, powerful with a surprising look at all sorts of relationships and healing.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Have you ever been in a car accident?

Review: Succubus Shadows by Richelle Mead

Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid #5) by Richelle Mead
Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality, seduction, shape-shifting into any human form she desires, walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals—all child’s play to a succubus like her.
Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend’s wedding is a different story. Georgina isn’t sure which is worse—that Seth is marrying another woman, or that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions. Georgina’s roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with sexual tension. Then there’s Simone, the new succubus in town, who’s intent on corrupting Seth.
And if that wasn't bad enough, she's started having dreams shadowy, dangerous but alluring dreams, dreams that don't want to let go. These dreams are created by the Oneroi, demons in the service of Nyx, a creature from Hell who's bent on revenge. These are dreams that can trap their chosen victim and drain their powers through nightmares. This mysterious force that’s visiting her thoughts, is trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she’ll be too weak to resist. And Georgina is powerless as she watches those in the real world try to find her, she comes to understand that her freedom her fate lies in the hands of the only one who can find her soul, who just happens to be the man who s about to marry someone else. She’ll discover who she can trust, who she can’t—and that Hell is far from the worst place to spend eternity…

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series and am really thankful that all of the books are already released and I've had a nice little gap in my reading schedule where I have been able to fit these in and just read and read and read.

I love Georgina our main character. She is feisty and confident and oh yes she's a succubus. While she is an employee of Hell basically she has a way of really just bringing up the people around her and even though she needs to steal life energy during sex in order to survive she would prey on and bad men to get her energy instead of corrupting the ones that are more pure. She made a deal in the first book to protects her boyfriend at the time Seth memory OF who she is and the knowledge of the supernatural world that most people in this book don't know about. She also went off the rails after seth broke up with her. One of her friends Hugh had put in Seth's mind that he is not the one that is going to ultimately suffer from the relationship. Georgina would because he's a mortal and Georgina's already terrified of something happening to him and knowing that he will die and once he's gone after loving like that she would hurt and carry that hurt around for a long long time.

This book basically picks up where her best friend Maddie is asking for her help and planning her and Seth's wedding. Mattie you like most people had no idea that Georgina and Seth used to date because they kept it a secret from a lot of the people they were around at the time and Georgia and then it just kept being friends even though Georgina was so hurt at Seth breaking up with her.

After finally getting to see Georgina and seth make love in the last book when Jerome was summoned and the immortals in Seattle were in a holding pattern they were still immortal but they lost their powers so Georgina could be with him without stealing his life energy. Georgina convinced him that their relationship wouldn't work especially now that she was back to being a succubus and urged him to go back to his relationship with Maddie because she could tell that seth really cared for Maddie and she wanted them to have every chance to be happy. because of a relationship with her meant being in the middle of cosmic battles and putting his life in danger and abstinence because she doesn't want to end up stealing his life energy. So basically right after that conversation he went and proposed to Maddie. It was really hard on me to see this funny sweet charismatic guy that felt so much love for Georgina now in the arms of another woman. I'm just wondering how this is all going to work out. I'm mad at him for going to the arms of Maddie and even though she is such a sweet girl and I want her to be happy I really just feel like so but has been the story of Georgina and Seth and their forbidden love and their undeniable chemistry.

Towards the last half of the book things really start to come to a head and fore shadow some of the things that are coming. Seth has the existential crisis about the ending for his characters in his long-running series that is what brought him and Georgina together in the first place. He says that his muse is left him and he can't figure out how he wants to end things for them. as all this is going on he's wedding planning with Maddie and feeling the guilt over what happened with Georgina but there still the tension and chemistry between him and Georgie. So he is just wanting to figure out the root of that and if anything's possible with him and Georgina. we don't have his point of view so just guessing a little bit.

Of course I ended up finding out what is going on with visions that Georgina sees almost like a siren and calling her to something happy and bright and usually attacking her when she is in a more depressed mood. As her friends including Eric and Roman in his own way are trying to figure out how to rescue Georgina from what's going on with her visions it is neat to see them all band together and strive for an answer for her. She is usually the one that is so adamant about finding answers and not giving up. She would bring her friends along with her as back up if someone else has problem even if they wouldn't get unsolved without her urging. and now they're trying to help her.

The dreams continue to be a big part of the plot line and Georgina realizes something that I've noticed too. that trouble seems to be drawn to her and that she ends up being in the same kind of situations over and over and then she will seek help and then finally get to the bottom of things. but that it just seems like such a pattern and the cycle that she is on. Also liked the situation with godiva in this one showing that some parts of what she was shown to have the possibility to come true and that's it she might be on that path.

The ending definitely made me have more questions but it also started to show me how some of the things might unravel and having certain plot lines either be tied up or showing the possibilities of what might happen. Its kind of wild how close to the ending of full series we are and it's been a wild ride and I can't wait for an extra moment to go ahead and read more.

Bottom Line: Perfect storm leading up to the finale of this series that I've enjoyed immensely.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Have you ever had dreams of something that later came true in some form?
