Recommend books for me?

I am in need of some more books dealing with tough issues- death and dying, illness, self perception, or books on the darker side (abuse, rape, etc)

Here is a sampling of what I have read and enjoyed:

Lurlene McDaniel (I've read them all)
Girl next door
My Sister's Keeper
Change of Heart
Positively
Blindsided
Dark Song
Cut
Flyaway
Lost for Words
Forbidden
Scars
Dirty little secrets
In a heartbeat
By the time you read this I'll be dead
Purge
After
Hate List
19 Minutes
Willow

ETA- I have also read (and enjoyed)
If I Stay
Go ask alice
A child called it
Speak
13 reasons why
Beautiful
Cracked up to be
Elsewhere
God is in pancakes

tried to read Hopkins but I don't do books written in verse well

  3. There is a book called "A Child Called It" by David something and its really good. Its rough and its also a true story so be warned.

  4. Lesa and Danielle's suggestions are good! Also Ellen Hopkin's book are all really good and deal with a lot of tough and dark issues.

  5. I am reading Handle With Care, and it's INTENSE. Definitely covers health issues, etc. I am sure I have some others that deal with self-perceptions, etc. as well. I'll check my stash!

  6. Wintergirls, for sure, as well as Scars, which I believe is just out in hardcover. The former deals with excruciating eating disorders, and the latter deals with sexual abuse.

Oh, I'm a new follower, by the way...your blog is lovely!

  7. I second Wintergirls and anything by Ellen Hopkins. I'll admit, I haven't read Wintergirls yet but I loved Speak, which is by the same author, and it seems like it'd be right up your alley.

And also, I would wholeheartedly recommend Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott, which I've just recently reviewed. It is just dark, and raw and devastating.

And awesome blog, by the way. :D

  8. Willow by Julia Hoban and Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher are fabulous. So is Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, and all of them deal with a variety of issues.

  9. I'm not sure if you've read them yet, but Lush and Perfect by Natasha Friend are great!

  13. It's already been suggested, but I have to mention If I Stay by Gayle Forman because it's THAT good. Also either of Courtney Summers' books, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (or her memoir Lucky), Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin, God Is in the Pancakes by Robin Epstein.

  14. Check out Cardboard by Fiona Place. It's about a young woman with anorexia. It's a difficult read, but it's a very important book to read. Gives great insight into a person with this terrible eating disorder.

  15. Jodi Picoult writes about some sensitive issues. She's a good writer to check out.

Augusten Burroughs has some very warped stuff in Running With Scissors.
