Our interview: --The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
Mieradome is ‘like a twisted Alice in Wonderland’, about a faerie girl Amavia who is on a search of self-discovery. It’s about the duality of her internal nature.
--How did you get the idea for the story?
The idea for my novel Mieradome came from a dream about a girl in a bedroom looking out her window where a bright light zips past her ear and out into the dark of night. That little light ended up disappearing into a large oak tree. The dream made me wonder why that light would go in the tree, what the tree was hiding, and what the little light actually was. So in essence, I just expanded on the small idea I had and built a world around that.
--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
I think I’d love to have dinner with my character Tai Ming Kiels. He was written (and inspired by) my Grandpa Jack Hegarty. My grandpa was a very jovial, yet scatterbrained Irishman, but always cheery. So Tai Ming Kiels would be a great older & wiser character to learn from, laugh with, and enjoy their company.
--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
I do have time to read. I’m getting into a lot of non-fiction right now. I just finished Trish Ryan’s memoir, A Maze of Grace. Some of my favorite books are: I Dreamed of Africa by Kuki GallmannMy House in Umbria by William Trevor, and Gift of the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
Yep. I am currently working on the sequel to Mieradome called The Saskatoon Balloon. We already have a trailer for it! I am also editing my Bachelor’s thesis about my 3rd Great Aunt, Dora DuFran, who was a famous brothel madam here in the USA and employed/was friends withCalamity Jane in Deadwood.

--If a fairy godmother told you your life could be like a favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
If I could travel to my favorite book for 24 hours I would choose Narnia. I would love to ride the seas on the Dawn Treader, have a sword fighting workshop with Reepicheep,  walk through forests with Aslan, and have a picnic with the Pevensies kids.
--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
Coffee is always good when I'm writing long passages or doing editing. You can never under estimate the power of caffeine to help you finish a project! With music I can't have any on when I'm writing because I tend to get distracted. However, to get into the emotional state for a certain scene I will listen to music ahead of time.
--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I would love to be telekinetic. It would be awesome to make things move with my mind. I’d also love to be able to juggle!

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
I love to read. I go to local art museums, zoos and aquariums. I find them relaxing, interesting, and great sources of inspiration for stories (& characters). I am also getting into painting. I enjoy merging the colors and creating different textures on the canvases.

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
I hope you check out my novel Mieradome and let me know what you think! Thanks so much for listening!
