Suzi's bio is taken from her site where she says
I am a 27 year old British-born, Canadian writer and artist.  I have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, a certificate in Special Education Assistance and I am working towards a Masters degree in Educational Psychology.  I live in a small town on Vancouver Island (in British Columbia) with my husband and 1 year old son.
- The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
Two teens, Grace and Sebastian, fall in love and struggle to be together despite Sebastian’s forgotten past and his powerful, ancient magic.
That was 121,000 words summed up into 22 by the way!

--How did you get the idea for the story?
Amber Frost began with the idea for Sebastian’s character. I fell in love with the idea of a strange boy, whom strange things happen around. The more I thought about it, the more the story developed. Before I had even begun writing, I already knew what I wanted the last line in the book to be. I was so excited to write the ending that it motivated my writing all the way through. It also gave me a really clear idea of where my story was going and how I wanted the plot and the characters to develop along the way.

--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
Ooooo… good question. I think I would least like to have dinner with Clarke. I have a very hard time being around people who are that egotistical or arrogant. It’s so hard to resist “knocking them down a peg” but since I know that isn’t the best way to handle things, I end up suffering in silence – much like Grace.

--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
I love reading. I don’t have as much time to read these days but I do try to make time. I love reading books in one sitting so I try to find a night when I don’t have too much work to do, or things that I can justify putting off until tomorrow! As for favorite books… I have far too many to list them all. I love The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson, Jean Auel’s Earth’s Children books, and of course, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books - and that’s just naming a few!

--If a fairy godmother told you your life could be like a favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, without a doubt! It would be fun to travel back in time to that era and all it entails, and who wouldn’t want Mr. Darcy “courting” after them?

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your book’s playlist that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?

I often drink cola while writing. I don’t normally drink pop but there’s something about the sugar and caffeine that helps me think or at least I think it does and that’s all that really matters. I also like to have music playing in the background while I’m writing but since my son was born I usually have to keep the music off or turned down too low to really hear (he’s a light sleeper in a small house).
I was listening to some John Mayer and Jack Johnson when I was writing Amber Frost and both those songs are on the Playlist I created. I listen to a pretty wide range of music and so there was also a lot of country, rock, alternative, r&b and oldies that I was listening to at the time too! Most of the songs on the playlist were songs that I heard after completing Amber Frost that either had lyrics or just a tone that matched the mood of my novel.

--Can you give us any teasers from the sequel? Is there a publication date?
I would love to give some teasers! Let’s see… well, in Book Two (still working on that darn title) most of the story takes place outside of Canada. There are also several new characters introduced, mostly from Sebastian’s past. The magic that has reawakened inside of Grace is more powerful and wild than anyone realized. And Grace discovers things about herself, and about Caoilinn, that make her question who she really is... Let’s just say that I’m really enjoying writing it.
Book Two of the Lost Magic will be published as an ebook by ireadiwrite Publishing in 2011. At this time, there is no set publication date but I think it’s safe to say it will be much later in 2011.

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

I would love to have the ability to heal people. Just think of all the good you could do! And to never have to see anyone you cared about be sick or suffer… it would be a great super-power.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?

I don’t have that much spare time anymore! I try to see my friends when I can and other than that, I try to spend every free minute with my husband and son. I enjoy camping, hiking, photography, drawing and baseball… and eating! I like going to new places and meeting new people. I also enjoy the usual past-times – reading, listening to music, watching tv, etc. But mostly, I write!

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?

I am quite overwhelmed by the support my book has received so far. This really has been a dream come true for me and I am enjoying every minute. Thank you all so much for your interest! I’m thrilled to be able to share Amber Frost with the world and to connect with so many new people along the way.

  3. Awwww, I think her super power pick is awesome. Most people would pick something selfish, like flying or being rich. And she picked something that could help others. Which MIGHT even lead to being rich OR someone granting her flying powers. Smart lady!

  5. I saw your suggestion to read Amber Frost from TriangleMommies. Just finished it today. Loved it!!! I enjoyed it so much, I've neglected my husband and kids. I couldn't put it down. I'm grateful that you asked when book 2 would be published. I've been searching for that answer. Thanks, Jessica1
