Review: Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2)
Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

My Review:

I was spell bound from page one until the end, and then I wanted even more.
Though I'd forgotten a bit, there was a nice refresher that came naturally, and it came back :)   Sophie is still amazing and sarcastic. I laughed so much, and I loved that she could always lessen the tension with her comments.
I couldn't decide between Archer and Cal, they are both awesome, and have their own merits. They are both well developed, and though I have a feeling who Sophie will chose, I am still torn. Cal played a bigger role in this one, and maybe added to my feelings.
Jenna is in this one too, and she shows a lot of growth.
I ended up really liking Sophie's Dad, he's solid and I was shocked by some of the things revealed.
I totally wasn't expecting a lot of things in this book, and the ending made me wish I already had the 3rd in my hands!

  1. I absolutely loved this book! I'm glad you did too!

  2. I've been waiting for this one. I had a couple of issues with Hex Hall, but I liked the overall story. I heard this one was even better.

  3. Ahhhh! I can't wait for this book, Hex Hall was one of my favorite reads last year! So glad Sophie is still as snarky as ever, she's a girl after my own heart:) So exited for this one!

  4. I have yet to read Hex Hall (it's on my shelf!), but I'm glad to see the sequel is great! Nice review. =)

  5. Man I haven't even read Hex Hall yet, I'm so slacking. As for my baby name, Adelaide is a city in Australia that my husband lived in and a name that I've always loved so that worked out perfectly and really quickly. I could imagine her grandparents calling her Adel, but I've already started calling her Addi :) I'm excited!

  6. Can't wait for this one, it's not out til March here! :(
Glad to hear Sophie is still her sarcastic self.

  7. I can't wait to read this one-- loved Hex Hall, and I'm happy to hear Demonglass is just as snarky and awesome. So glad you enjoyed it, Brandi, and thanks for the review! :)

  8. Oh yeah- snarky as ever :)
Not out til March here either, I got an ARC
