Interview with Willow Rose author of Beyond

Beyond (Afterlife,#1)
Beyond by Willow Rose (pen-name for T.P. Boje)

Have you ever wondered where you go when you die?
Meghan is 16 when it happens to her.
She wakes up on a flying steamboat on her way to a school run by Angels in a
white marble castle. It is a school everybody has to go to before they are let into Heaven.
On the boat she meets Mick who has been dead for more than a hundred years but still looks like a teenager. He helps her past the difficult beginning at the new school in a new world filled with heavenly magic.
One day some of Meghan's roommates find a mirror in the cellar of the school and they persuade her to go through it with them - well knowing it is strictly against the rules of the school. Meghan ends up back on earth where she meets Jason. But Jason is in danger and Meghan knows something important. Something that is a matter of life and death. Soon she is forced to choose between the two worlds. The one she belongs to now and the one she left.

Death meets life with a twist. Warm with a touch of darkness to it. A pageturner and a tear-jerker. Paranormal romance with a touch of fantasy and mystery.
--How did you get the idea for the story?
Haven’t we all at some point wondered where we will go when we die? I used to do it a lot as a kid. Is heaven for real and what is it going to be like once I get there? What kind of a body will I have? What will I look like? Will all of my family come with me? Will I meet my grandmother there? As I grew up I never thought much about life after death and if there really was one or not. I was busy living my life and thinking about my life here on earth. But then one day not many months ago a thought just popped into my head. What if we have to go to school when we die? As it so often happens, the thought wouldn’t go away again once it had come into my head, and I started playing with the idea. If it is true that we leave our bodies here on earth, then we must have some new body on the other side, right? And it would probably take some time to get used to that new body. And how about going through walls and doors and stuff? I mean if we become spirits then we would have to learn how to do all those things, right? And what about flying? That is not something that comes to us easily. We would have to practice first, right? And someone would have to teach us. So eventually I started imagining this school that we all had to graduate from in order to be let into heaven, and soon Meghan popped into my head and started walking around on that school - that just had to be run by angels. She soon made some friends and fell in love (as it often happens when you are sixteen). And that was when the problems began. Because the boy was still human, living on earth, so how could they ever be together? That was when I realized that a book-series was born - and  it was about how dying is only the beginning of the next great adventure

--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
I would love to have dinner with professor GrangĂ© who carries his head under his arm. That would be a lot of fun, I think. I wouldn’t want to have dinner with Portia – the mean girl from Meghan’s dorm.
--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?I read all the time. I try to read all kinds of different books. They inspire me. I have always loved The Neverending Story and I still read it from time to time. It is one of those books that you read when you were a kid, and it always makes you so happy to re-read.
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
I have currently released three books in this series and I am planning on writing six in total. So I will be busy for a long time, I think. I am planning to start writing the fourth soon.
--If a fairy godmother told you your life could be like a favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
The Neverending Story again. I would love to experience Fantastica on my own – and fly on my own luck-dragon!
--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
No. I have to have completely silence when I write. I need a cup of green tea and just silence.
--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Mindreading. That would be so cool – to always know if my kids were lying to me.
--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
My favorite place in the whole world is the beach. Since I live in Florida every day is a potential beach-day, so we go there a lot.
--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
I love to write and I just hope that they will enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.
Lightning round: this or that?
Vanilla or chocolate? Vanilla.
Edward or Jacob? Jacob – I like my men hairy and warmblooded.
Hockey or soccer? Soccer – I am from Europe.
Ebook or paper? I love both. Nothing is better than to hold the book in your hands, but e-book is just so much easier, especially when you travel.
Salty or sweet? Salty.
Beach or mountains? Beach, beach, beach!
Phone call or email?Phone-call. That is more personal.
Early bird or night owl? Both – which makes me constantly tired.
Dog or cat?Dog.
Messy or neat? I am in between on that one. I am a messy-head, but I do like to keep some kind of neatness in my mess. I have my mess organized so to speak.
Ninjas or pirates? Pirates! I want to write a book about pirates one day.

  2. The book sounds like it's the sort of book that stays with you long past your initial reading of it. There aren't too many well-written deep thought books but this sounds like one.
I am in envy that she can write in silence with only green tea. I need classic rock, coffee, and to do housework at the same time(I can't sit still).

  3. With the ingredients of love, humor, and paranormal characters, bound to be a great recipe for a fun read.
