Author Interview: Pledged by Gwynneth White

Pledged by Gwynneth White
Everyone has a soul mate. But what do you do when your soul mate would rather give his soul to the demons than be with you?
Seventeen-year-old Erin has a problem. Seth has been hers forever, but now an ancient curse is tearing him away. And the demons who invoked it will stop at nothing to claim him as their own. How can she win against a curse so binding that it has damned countless others to this same fate – an eternity alone.
The answer lies in the past. To find it, Erin and Seth must risk all, travelling back in time to a dangerous world where love is forbidden, and life – and death – hang on a pledge.
Follow Erin and Seth as they travel to ancient Shenaya and confront the curse that has plagued their families for millennia. Caught in a war between the Angelic Guardians and the Gefallen, the disembodied dead, they must fight to keep their souls in tact and their love untainted.

interview with Blkosiner's Book Blog

Hello Brandi, thank you for having me on your blog.  I really appreciate the opportunity to chat to you and your readers.
1.     The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
Pledged is a fast-passed, YA fantasy adventure filled with romance, time travel and the meddling of the dead in the affairs of the living.

2. How did you get the idea for the story?
I wish I had a real answer to that, but the truth is, I don’t know. The story just appeared in my head one day. That was partly because I’m the kind of girl who tells herself stories when life gets boring. One of my favourites, which had been swirling around my head for almost ten years, featured some of the characters in Pledged. (Caleb, Jared and Sophia to be exact). Four years ago I decide to write the story down, and thus Pledged was born.
3. Which character would you least like to have dinner with?
That’s easy. Rustus, Lord of the Household in Shenaya. With his chronic sinusitis, gammy leg, obsessive self-absorption, and passion for killing people, he would make a rotten dinner guest.

4. Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
Sacrificed, the sequel to Pledged will be released in January 2013. It picks up right where the cliffhanger in Pledged leaves off. All I can say is that it’s a dark adventure in which Caleb and Erin should be awarded medals for bravery.

5. If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Oh, Harry Potter! Yes please, fairy godmother. I promise to be good all year long if you’d just drop me off at the Leaky Caldron for a day. As you can gather, I am a serious HP fan. I just love sheer brilliance of it.

6. Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
I burn aromatherapy oil when I write. I know it sounds weird, but the glorious scent stirs my creativity. And music? Coldplay, Muse and Snow Patrol. Recently I’ve been listening to a compilation of some of the Twilight soundtracks. I’m enjoying revisiting them.

7. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Tough one. It’s a toss up between shooting electricity through my fingers or flying. Maybe I can solve the problem by becoming a demi-god like Helen in Starcrossed. Cool powers.

8. What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
Stop being so shy, it’s killing you!

9. Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
I use social media because I love chatting to people and getting to know them, not because I want to promote my book. So if you like getting to know people too, please befriend me. You can find me at:

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Have you ever felt like your love wasn't returned? Did you fight to keep it alive?

  1. No I can't say that I have ever felt that way, but I am not the type to fall in love easily.

  2. I honestly haven't been in a relationship long enough for love to develop so I can't answer this question honestly yet.

  5. Of course, there have been times my love wasn't returned. It's heartbreaking, but it's better to be genuine and authentic with your relationships rather than take part of something less than love. :D

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  6. I really want to read it now. There were times I felt it wasn't returned and I believe I was right so the relationship ended. I think it has bettered me and made me realize what I need and deserve from a relationship :)

  10. I felt that way with my ex, so I ended it and was devastated. Part of me regretted walking away and wanted to be back with him but it was mostly just the familar feeling of being with someone for a long time. As soon as I realized I deserved more, I was so much better and then in walks my now husband. Everything worked out as it should

  11. This book looks great - I can't wait to read it.

I briefly felt that way when my husband deployed. Fortunately we were able to talk it out quickly and make our needs known to each other.
