Giveaway: Shadows Gray and author interview Melyssa Williams

Shadows Gray
Shadows Gray by Melyssa Williams
Sonnet Gray has problems, and not just those of a typical 18 year old. Her family is one of the Lost; time travelers who have no power over their journeys. Hopelessly old fashioned and yet more modern than most girls, Sonnet speaks several languages and takes care of her motley crew back home by working in a coffee shop and playing guitar. Over time, the Lost leave behind those they love and pick up new characters along the way. In twenty-first century America, Sonnet meets Emme, a Lost young woman with a questionable line of work, Luke, a mysterious photographer, and Israel, a young doctor . But no one can take the place of Sonnet's sister, Rose, who was left behind as a baby in the fifteenth century. The ghost of her beckons from each time and place; but what's real and what isn't? Is Rose Gray trying to contact her before it's too late?
A ghost story with a sci-fi, Gothic romance twist, Shadows Gray will keep you up at night, wondering: is the redemptive power of love enough to change history?

How did you get the idea for the story?
It’s been in my head long enough that I no longer know how it originated! I had just finished reading Twilight and all my thirty-something friends were just obsessed with it. I thought, there really seems to be a market for YA all of a sudden. If I wrote one, what would it be about? From there, I started naming characters…and everything else wrote itself.
--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
Most: Sonnet, of course. And Luke would be great company. Prue would be entertaining.
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
I’m working on the sequel, which is the story of Sonnet’s sister, Rose Gray. I plan to release it around the holidays. Soon, I’m going to offer teasers and a sample chapter up on the website: http://shadowsgray.com
--What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar set-up or style)
Hmm. I don’t know if they’re similar, but if you enjoy Libba Bray and Rae Carson, I think you’ll like my style.
--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
Of course! I will always make time to read. Dinner may burn and the laundry may pile up, but I will always have books.  J  I just finished Legend by Marie Lu.  I’m currently waiting for two books at the library: Cinder, and Shadow and Bone.

--If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Probably Anne of Green Gables. For Gilbert. He needs me.

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
Coffee! I have kids: they’re my playlist.

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Time travel.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
Thrift shop!
--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
Life gets SO good.

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
Keep reading! It’s the pathway to everything.

There's no doubt that that you ought to publish more about this topic, it might not be a taboo matter but generally folks don't discuss these issues.

  4. ha ha! i often get accused of letting dinner burn or forgetting to make something because I am reading! Glad it's not just me!
I would hate to be stuck in any time that didn't have internet. I think I would quite possibly go mad!!

  5. I think we take things for granted sometimes and it would be refreshing to be stuck back in the 1800's, but only for a little bit :) That way, when I get back to now, I will appreciate everything that much more
