Project ELE and Author Interview

Picture
Project ELE by Rebecca Gober and Courtney Nuckles
Millions have already died, and thousands more are perishing daily. As a last ditch effort to preserve the human race, the government implements Project ELE. With the earth heating at rapid speeds, all
remaining survivors are forced to turn to F.E.M.A. shelters to wait out ELE's wrath.
Fifteen-year-old Willow Mosby's life, as she knows it, ends the moment she walks through the shelter's door. Willow has to quickly adapt to the new challenges that shelter life demands, the least of which includes making new friends and working a full time job.
Soon after making an interesting discovery, Willow and her friends start exhibiting strange abilities. Seeking answers, they embark on a mission to find out what these new abilities mean and whether they are a gift or a curse.
This new adventure can send her world crashing down around her. The question is: Can Willow survive the fall?
From the authors of Night Marchers comes a new apocalyptic series
with a paranormal twist.

interview with Blkosiner's Book Blog

Interview with Rebecca Gober and Courtney Nuckels, Authors of Project ELE and The Nightmarchers Series.
--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
A virus is killing off the population and 16 yr old Willow must move to a shelter to survive. Soon she starts exhibiting strange abilities.

--How did you get the idea for the story?
Our ideas came from an accumulation of thoughts. Courtney had an idea of a future where our immunizations and cures caused significant changes or mutations in humans. (She's encountered a lot of personal side effects from immunizations and medications that had given her this inspiration.) When we combined that with a dystopian short story that I wrote which spoke of humans with special abilities, we knew we had a winning premise for our next book. After talking it out, we took our two ideas and ran with it. That's how Project ELE was formed. (Of course with a whole lot more blood, sweat and tears.)
--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
"I would most like to have dinner with Willow so I can have her show me all of the cool stuff she can do. I would least like to have dinner with creepy Dr. Hastings." ~Rebecca
"I think I’d most like to have dinner with Sebastian.  He’s just too cute!  Least would probably be Zack.  He’s a two faced mean-y head." ~Courtney
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
We are happy you asked! Yes, we are in the editing process with Finding ELE, the sequel to Project ELE. This should be out by mid October. We also have plans to write a third book for either our Night Marcher's series or for the ELE series for NANOWRIMO.
For a teaser check out our recently released book trailer for Finding ELE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UmzeaCJY6Y
--What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar set-up or style)
Eeek, I'm not really sure. We've been compared to Resident Evil but that's not really a book. (Honestly, I think that the virus and the fact that mutations happen are the only similarities to the video game made movie. We don't have some of the creepy mutations don't worry.)
We honestly try really hard to not write books similar to others we've read. We in fact would steer away from a subject to write about if we feel like it had been done before. We really strive to be unique. If the idea isn’t unique, we don’t write about it.
--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
So many! We love Cynthia Hand's Unearthly series, Amanda Hockings (We love everything she writes.) Yes, we are going to put it out there: We are Twilight junkies. We love the series and even did the Forks pilgrimage. Hey don't judge! ;0) There are so many other favorites we can't name them all. We definitely make time to read, this is what gives us inspiration to be better writers.

--If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
"Pride and Prejudice. My main reason is because it was a time of simplicity back then. (Well, it appears that way to me.) I would love to dance with Mr. Darcy, that is if he wouldn't snub me and laugh with Elizabeth Bennet. I also think that the English country side is gorgeous and I'd love to see it." ~Rebecca
“Alice and Wonderland.  I have the classic illustrated book and I used to read it over and over and lose myself in the pictures and text.  Wouldn’t it be cool to have tea with the white rabbit?”  ~Courtney

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
"Redbull and Chocolate is a must for me! I can't listen to music while I write but sometimes songs inspire me to pull out the laptop. I love Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert. (I'm from Texas if you can't tell.) ~Rebecca
I like Chai tea with a dab of vanilla creamer.  I also don’t like to listen to music while I write, but like Rebecca, there are songs that inspire me to write.  Taylor Swift is huge for me along with Christina Perri and my latest obsession: Natalie Lungley who sings a version of Hallelujah that will bring anyone to their knees.  Go check her out!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7i4RQksr14 ” ~Courtney

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
"I'd like to be able to walk through objects and walls. That would be pretty cool." ~Rebecca
“Hands down, I would fly.  I think that would be the coolest thing in the world!”  ~Courtney

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
"I love spending time with my family, doing crafts, painting, baking and reading." ~Rebecca
“I love sewing, quilting, crafting, reading, cooking and teaching.   I’m a woman of many hats.” ~Courtney

--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
"Don't let those boys rule your life. You are going to go through so many before you find the one who will captivate your heart. Don't let the ones who weren't meant to be, keep you down." ~Rebecca
“Oh my…just one thing?  I think it would have to be the fact that when you cross that stage at graduation nothing in the past four years matters anymore.  Not the clicks or the boys or anything.  Don’t worry about being popular or fitting in.  Just be yourself and love who you are.”  ~Courtney

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
