Giveaway and Interview: Hypothesis by Ana Bastow with Starbucks and Itunes Giftcards

Hypothesis (Hekapolis Trilogy #1)
Hypothesis by Ana Bastow
College sophomore Gabrielle Bridge is falling for the wrong guy. One would think a physics student would be smarter than that. In her defense though, he was wearing the most surprising disguise.
We meet our geek girl while she is plotting to win the Nobel prize one day. But with an absentee father and an alcoholic mother, she knows her chances are next to zero.
To achieve her goal she tries to recruit her current crush, the brilliant Toby Harker, as a partner. Sadly her big stupid mouth lands her pretty but dumb William Wyseman, instead. This unfortunate pairing though turns out to be enchanting -literally.
William is a wizard, magic is real.
There is a secret world hidden in plain sight, a world at war with Sekeem Soulless a sorcerer powerful enough to destroy it all.
William unable to beat him with his powers was posing as a science student to seek a human weapon to stop him. And turns out that Gabrielle might be what he needs: she is immune to magic.
William promises to help her prove to the world that witchcraft is real. The Nobel will be hers with this breakthrough. That is if they find out how to use her strange 'gift' before Sekeem kills her, with his own hands if magic won't do.
Gabrielle thinks she will learn the mysteries of magic. However, her most shocking discoveries are going to be about herself.

The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
Magic and romance combine in a psychologically complex tale, grounded in the reality of today's college hookup culture.

How did you get the idea for the story?
I had been pondering writing my first series in English for a few months. While I was riding in the car with my husband in late 2010 I thought of this concept: “What if a scientist were to discover magic is real...and not only real she is immune to it?”                                                   I started to put things together and made some notes but it was not until a visit to Spokane, in March 23, 2011. While watching the water in the river, I had this vision of my lead characters first dance and first kiss. From them on the story grew organically on its own until I had enough material for a trilogy.
Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
I plan to write a sci-fi series about a reporter in the future, covering milestones; the return of humans to the moon, the first contact with alien intelligent life, cloning, the singularity, and genetic engineered humans. I also plan to write a series about the end of the world, a retelling of Perseus and Andromeda and a sci-fi fairytale. I'm always plotting now in English and Spanish!
What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar kind of read, set-up or style)
My book could be described as the cousin of Harry Potter and Twilight for Nerds/Geeks.
What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
Can anyone pick a star in the sky? Can a mother pick a favorite child? I think the list will be shorter if I mention the books I like the less. I steal time to read between writing and caring for my toddler.
If a fairy godmother told you that you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Dante's Comedy. It might sound grim but the poet ended up in heaven after going throughout hell. I can identify with that journey. I also feel pity for the limbo people.                                              “These have no hope of death... mercy and justice disdain them. Let us not speak of them, but do thou look and pass on”  I would like to stop and talk to them; let them know they are meaningful, at least to me. I know I'm weird.

Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
I used to write in the bus, in the office between quiet times. I actually write better under pressure, so no rituals or special places, just will and extra time.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
The power to make people feel empathy for the ones around them. A lame power I know but, I would love to live in a world with more love and understanding among each other.
Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
Free time?! What is that? Can you eat it?
What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
Don't run during the night! I fell down and got a scar in my otherwise perfect legs. I can live with the rest of my angry depressed teenager self. She was in the pupa period, no matter how much it hurt I turned out a nice butterfly. Except for my freaking scar :P
Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
Yes: get your book today and enjoy reading Gabrielle's journey as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Lightning round: this or that?
Vanilla or chocolate? Vanilla (I told you I was lame)
Video or Board Games? Board games (Queen of lameness)
Summer or Winter? (Summer Girl here)
Edward or Jacob? (Edward forever)
Hockey or soccer? (Soccer: I'm Latina, what did you expected?)
Ebook or paper? Both
Salty or sweet? Sweeeeet
Beach or mountains? Beach
Phone call or email? Depends on my mood
Early bird or night owl? Both, I'm hyperactive
Dog or cat? Kitty!
Messy or neat? Princess of Messland
Ninjas or pirates? Ninjas, Sir Francis Drake, a damn pirate. Set fire to the city of Santo Domingo in the 16th century. I can hold a grudge for a while. :P

Thank you for the opportunity.
