I wanted to read Red at Night because I have really enjoyed everything by Katie McGarry and wanted to know what would make two teenagers hang out in cemeteries.
Stella has a rough upbringing and she finds comfort in being there, where no one makes fun of her.When Jonah appears day after day at the cemetery where she frequents, they both are curious about each other. I can't imagine the bullying and how Stella must feel to rather be around the dead. Also the pain that Jonah feels, the guilt, and not many people gets what he went through.
With a traumatic event like he experienced, a complete stranger, and how he had the bravery to do what people can't understand, putting themselves aside and doing something for a person in desperate need.
Their romance was sweet, and so was the novella, but I think it did the characters justice, and I think their issues were pretty well explored.
I loved the writing style and so far anything in this world that Katie has written I have enjoyed and will continue to read that one.

I can't believe I haven't read this series yet. I even had the first couple of books. AGAIN, lol. Weirdest spot I've ever hung out . . . hmmm . . . I'm not sure this counts, but my father was rather creative in the punishment department, and he understood that boredom was by FAR the worst punishment, so he used to make me sit under the deck (ours was one of those high off the ground kind). *snickers* It was the WORST. Especially in the summer time when it was all hot and there were bugs . . .

ReplyDeleteThe weirdest spot I've hung out? Well I've hung out at a cemetery but it doesn't really seem so weird to me. I can't really think of any place else that's weird though. As a teen I use to lay on the tennis courts in the middle of the night to stare at the sky but that's not that weird really.

I haven't read any Katie McGarry, though I do have Pushing the Limits and this one (since it was free anyway), haven't read it yet though either, but glad to see you enjoyed it. Hmmm, the weirdest place I've hung out...not a lot of weird places, the skaters ramp (which is behind the leisure centre where I live) and behind the shed in high school...haha.

ReplyDeleteThe weirdest spot I have hung out as a teenager is in a park, in one of the tunnels to get to the slide, crammed in with three other giggling toddlers. I was in the park, you see, and then it started to suddenly pour with rain. I clambered into the tunnel for shelter and they followed. I talked with them for half an hour until it stopped and also read a little to them too. I had a pretty cramped body though xD
