Exclusive Giveaway and Interview for Tour: Moonfall by Vanessa Morton

When 16-year-old Rachav drinks the Moon Temple’s forbidden wine, she hardly
expects it to result in the death of a priestess. But when King Nur orders Rachav to serve
the Queen of the Night—the kingdom’s powerful goddess—as restitution, Rachav’s
identical twin, Zaron, has her own reasons for joining the priesthood and offers to take
her twin’s place.
But choices have consequences.
Now Rachav’s family is in danger. As she uncovers the shocking reason why, she finds
an ally in Salma, a brooding nomad who wields an ancient force powerful enough to
destroy the entire kingdom. While the epic showdown rages above the city, Rachav
plays a dangerous game of her own. Can she rescue her sister and right the wrongs of
that fateful choice? Or will the king succeed and trap her in the doomed city?

--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less. Two twins face forbidden love & a wise woman's curse in a realm dominated by night gods & a charismatic ruler's craving for power.
--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with? I would most like to have dinner with Salma, who is the sexiest man on the planet! I would cloak him in flesh and bones if I could.
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates? Yes! Book two in the trilogy is targeted for 2015.
--What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar kind of read, set-up or style) Mash-ups of YA/Supernatural/Historical are hard to find. In terms of historical accuracy, it is similar to Moran's Nefertiti. The YA paranormal element is similar to Clare's City of Bones in terms of a cast of varied characters and supernatural adversaries sparking paranormal activity.
--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Sometimes I find inspiration by changing my writing environment. I'll go to a coffee house or small cafĂ© that doesn’t mind me hunkering over coffee and my notebook for a couple of hours. Invariably, I'll do a little people watching and someone's mannerisms jumpstart a scene for me.
--If you could have any superpower what would you choose? Time travel would be fantastic as long as I could pick the precise location, as well as the time, sort of like Doctor Who. So … maybe that's two superpowers if I need to teleport.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time? I love to read, and I love to garden, especially in spring when everything sprouts as if re-born. It appeals to my sense of optimism and second chances: no matter what life throws at you or what mistakes you make, it's a fresh start every morning.
--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self? Hmmm. I doubt my 15-year-old self would listen, but… I would tell her to hold off on attending university and instead backpack around the world for a year, before the responsibilities of school, relationships and jobs twine their innocent-looking strings around her heart!

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers? The Bronze Age is an untapped setting for fiction. Because many cultures fervently believed in gods and goddesses, I believe that paranormal activity was more prevalent at that time, fostering a unique environment for epic YA adventures.

  3. Haha, I could take her advice to heart seeing as I am 15 myself. I am not sure about holding off myself though. I haven't even thought that far ahead! I think it's awesome she's into gardening. It must be so nice to create new life at her hands...
