--How did you get the idea for the story?
I wanted to see what would happen if I separated the mother and daughter team. How would they find a way to work together even though they were in different worlds? Would their love be strong enough to break through the barriers of time and space?

--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
Chief Morray! He’s dark and moody, complicated and tragic. The perfect man. Also, I picture him looking a lot like Michael Fassbender.

--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
The fourth and final book in my series, The Torrent just released on July 8th so that’s been my main focus. But I am working on some Young Adult romance concepts.

--What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar kind of read, set-up or style)
Hunger Games. Divergent. Under the Never Sky.

--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
1) The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
2) Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
3) Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
4) Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks
5) Witching Hour by Anne Rice
6) Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
7) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
9) Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
10) A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

--If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Island of the Blue Dolphins for sure! Island. Dolphins. Can’t lose.

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
Hot tea. My laptop. Pandora.

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I’d love to be able to fly.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
Read a lot of books. Watch a ton of movies. Hang out with my Boston Terrier.

--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
Don’t ever stop writing. Take more writing classes. Finish something and get a writing coach.

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
I love my readers. There is such joy in receiving their feedback. I especially love becoming “pen pals” with my readers. I’m a hugger, so if I met you in person, you’re getting a hug.

Lightning round: this or that?
Vanilla or chocolate? Chocolate!

BIO:
Simone Pond is an award-winning author of dystopian fiction. Her current series includes The City Center, The New Agenda, The Mainframe, and The Torrent. She also has a short story series called Voices of the Apocalypse.

She grew up in Kensington, Maryland - a small town just outside of Washington D.C. As a young girl, she loved writing in her journal and making up stories, but after reading S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders, everything changed. Amazed that a woman could write so convincingly from a teenage boy's perspective, Pond became determined to become a writer as well.

Pond currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their Boston Terrier. Follow her blog at Simone Says...
