The Tale of Mally Biddle by M.L. LeGette
When Mally Biddle agreed to spy upon the King of Lenzar and his overbearing knights she knew she was heading into danger. She didn't know she'd find a family unlike any other.
Posing as a servant in Bosc Castle, Mally serves tea and tends fires for the most dangerous men in the kingdom. Her goal is to learn the truth of what happened sixteen years ago, when the infant princess met her death ... a death that is surrounded by more questions than answers.
Along her search for the truth, Mally meets the energized Lita Stump, the strict and matriarchal Meriyal Boyd, and the opinionated Archibald Diggleby. Then of course there are the knights: Leon Gibbs who is slicker than a greased hog, Adrian Bayard, hot tempered and violent, and the worst of the lot: Sir Illius Molick, Captain of the Knights. And then there is Maud, a mysterious woman who just might know everything...
"To say I loved this book is an understatement. Mally is a wonderful character and she encounters so many quirky folks on her assignment. Very well written and engaging story! And an added bonus of a love triangle! I enjoyed it from beginning to end!! I will definitely be looking for more from this author!"

Character's Point of View: Lita Stump
Lita is Mally's best friend. She is 18 with sandy blonde hair that she keeps in a long braid down her back. She has worked in the castle for a year, is terrified of heights (so she always weasels out of dusting the chandeliers), loves to annoy the cook, and will steal sweets off platters when no one is looking. She dislikes using the servant passages as they are 'dreary'. Lita is upbeat, prefers laughing over scowling and sunshine over rain.
Vanilla or chocolate?
Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.
Edward or Jacob?
Who? Are they friends of yours? I suppose I'll go with Jacob because I knew an Edward once. He used to put snails under my pillow. Who puts snails under pillows?? My aunt always said he liked me and that was why he did, which is utter insanity.
Hockey or soccer?
Dear Lenzar! What are those? Candy? I would love to try a hockey. Do you have one on you?
Ebook or paper?
Don't you mean parchment? [Looks puzzled]
Salty or sweet?
Sweet. Have you been to the Lone Candle? No! You must go! You can't visit Bosc without stopping at the Lone Candle! They have this spectacular drink--oh, you'll think you've died. It's called almond toffee. Tell them you know me. They'll give you a free glass. It's the best dessert around, but don't tell Archie I said that. [Smiles evilly]
Beach or mountains?
I've always lived by the coast. I grew up in Bosc, actually, so I know all about fish head soup, but I'd love to see the mountains.
Dog or cat?
I've always wanted a dog, but servants aren't allowed pets. Cats are just a little too opinionated, if you know what I mean.
Messy or neat?
I'm horribly messy! It must be from having to clean up after those knights all day. When it comes to me, I just don't care!
Ninjas or pirates?
I've never met a ninja. They sound delightful! But I've heard of pirates. They always have their shirts unbuttoned, don't they? [Giggles]

ReplyDeleteWell, looking at the cover I certainly wasn't expecting this kind of a story but rather one set in the 1930's.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover!!! It's such a beautiful drawing. I want to read this now so much. The guest post is fantastic. Loved the answer to the Edward and Jacob question especially LOL. Thank you so much for sharing! It's on my to-read list :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, this reminds me a bit of The Agency, which I loved. Historical setting, girl going undercover... so much awesomeness!
ReplyDeletethanks for the excerpt. It's funny each time I see her hair, it looks like some snakes like medusa. Don't know why...
ReplyDeleteMally sounds cute! Love her answers and I have to agree.. who puts snails under pillows? Ew! :D
ReplyDeleteOh this is such a cute guest post! I love undercover spies of any kind, and if Mally has anywhere near as much personality as Lita here, I think I'd really enjoy this. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSo cute that she answers the questions in character!
