Talk to me: How to decide when to comment?

How do you peeps decide which posts to comment on? How do you decide which blogs to visit every day?

29 comments:

  1. I like to return comments, so when people comment on my blog, I go comment on theirs. Otherwise I have a list of my favourite blogs that I visit when I get the time. Otherwise I comment when I read somthing that I want to talk about :)

    1. I try to return too. Some people don't though and its hard to know if I should keep spending time, ya know?
      Thanks for all of yours!

  2. I go through my google reader 2 or 3 times a day and I have a few blogs where I comment on basically every post but otherwise it's if I think the content sounds interesting. I'm more likely to comment on a review where I've already read the book because I struggle with hype expectations so I try not to read too many reviews of books I haven't read.

    1. Oh, I prb should do that with the hype.

    2. Agreed! I comment more when I HAVE read a review than when I haven't because I don't want to be spoiled. Or when it's a fun feature/interview/etc!

  3. Hah never heard of it but sounds like a fun read! Need to check it out.

    Hope you get it soon.
    Thanks for stopping by :)

  4. Um, well, I definitely like to return the comment (it's what I'm doing now, but I'll probably visit another one of your posts too! ;)), but I also like to comment on long and passionate discussions, LOL. Plus I'm more likely to comment on a review of a book that I've read than of one I haven't, unless it just sounds amazing! There are a few blogs that I try to comment on everything that they put out, but very few (usually they're people that I really know). I hope I helped! (:

    1. I usually avoid discussions for some reason, but then I post them

    2. Haha, it really depends on what the discussion is, for me. (:

  5. I go over all the feeds from blogs I follow in no particular order. I comment based on the content, if the blog owner stopped by our blog, and I have several blogger friends who I want to support. Help their blog generate activity by checking out their posts and leaving a note to say that I dropped by.

  6. I have all the blogs I follow in one folder in my reader. So I visit every blog that has posted that day. I skip a lot of posts, though. So even though I see the post, I might not read it. I especially concentrate on reviews -- I read most of those.

I comment when I have something to say. A book I've already read - maybe I have something to add or agree with. A book that I'm excited to read, or just a really awesome review that MADE me want to read the book.

I try to return comments to people who have commented on my blog.

For meme's, I randomly pick some new blogs to go look at and an comment on.

  7. Post title and display picture go along way to me clicking on a post. For reviews, I really like it when the rating is in plain sight at the beginning of the post. If I see 5 stars or 2 stars at the start, instantly I'm interested. I comment when I feel compelled, but I also take note of those who do not reply and then shy away from commenting in the future. Unless it's a big hop (or opinion piece like this one), I always reply to comments. I especially like to share the love by tweeting a good post if that option is handy.

  9. I do the comment returning thing too. When there are discussion posts on topics that have not been approached before(something like this^),I try to comment these stuff too.
And if there's a review on a book that I'm gonna read next or a review of a book that's on my TBR,I'll comment on that too.

  11. I go back through my posts to see who the frequent comments belong to then I add them to my sidebar so I can easily visit them daily. I always return comments as well. I use Blogger's system of looking for blogs to comment on, I try to comment on as many as I can. Whoever returns comments I know I'll keep visiting.

  12. I had written a big comment, I did something wrong and my Nook erased it. Let's see if I remember to include everything again.
I was talking with a new blogger,Christine @ Life of a YA girl, about this, well we exchanged a couple of comments but since we don't know each other I think that's a start. We were wondering what made people comment or read posts.
I go through my reader list, at the moment I use blogger's dashboard but I don't think it shows all posts so I'll be checking google reader soon. I also go to posts that catch my eye; it's hard to read hundreds of posts every day. I try to visit regularly blogs I like but I forget things easily and end up visiting them every other day or when I remember I haven't seen a blog in a while. I like to return comments too, if they stop by my post I'll go to their blog.
I'm working on making a list of blogs I visit so I remember to go daily

    1. Aw, sorry it deleted your comment. Thanks for your input, it is helpful. I used to do the feed too, but didn't work for me.

  13. I try to return comments, but on a regular basis, I browse my reader and drop by posts that are of an interest to me and leave a comment. I can usually find a post or two on each blog that I follow.
We are talking about how we manage GFC over at Book Blog 411 and would love you to jump in the conversation, as well as cast your vote. http://www.bookblog411.com/2013/02/05/discussion-starter-how-do-you-use-gfc/

  14. I always try to return comments and I usually comment on the latest post. On the blogs I follow I try to comment on every post I read, but I still get super insecure that I'll say something stupid or obvious which definitely lowers how many comments I make.
For which blogs I visit everyday, it depends on content and if I usually agree with their reviews and have a similar taste in books.
Awesome discussion post topic, Brandi! :)

  15. I'm not always good about commenting, but I try to go through my reader and comment on book reviews that catch my eye, interesting posts, and some memes. I also try to return frequent comments. I don't have a great formula, and honestly I'm not sure any set formula matters. I just know that every blogger loves to see comments, and the more we all comment on something, the more likely everyone is to get comments and therefore get reassurance that what we're putting out there is being read.

    Great discussion post!

  16. I check Google reader a few times a day. If I see a post title that sounds interesting I'll read it & comment. If I'm on my phone I'll make a note to go visit once I'm at my computer. I also try to comment on people's discussion posts because I know I get disappointed when I write out a discussion & nobody responds. Feels like you wasted your time, so I like to participate. I don't read reviews unless it's a book I've read because I don't want the book spoiled for me but I like to comment on reviews I have read.

  17. Haha, you got a lot replies to this! I saw this via Twitter. Usually I reply on blogs if they pose a really interesting question, offer a piece of novel advice (pun unintended but fun), or talk about a book I've read. I see it on Twitter or every other day day when I scroll through my Google Reader (I try to do it every day but it just doesn't happen).

  18. I'm not the best when it comes to commenting but I try. I do return comments most of the time. I have a few blogs subscribed to email updates so they are usually the first to get comments, and from there I mainly use my twitter feed to find new posts. (I don't use google reader often because my blog is based in WP). I also make sure what ever I'm commenting on is relevant to me so I can leave a meaningful comment.

I would love to hear from you! (I always try to visit your blog back) I love links, so feel free to link to your blog or a post you like.
Sorry, but I am award and tag free zone, I do not have the time to return. Comments are reward enough :)
