Review: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3)
Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare
Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.
Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.

The beginning was a little slow for me, because honestly it has been so long and only certain details stuck with me. I skimmed some of the book but was totally immersed in others.
I think that once I got into the action and figured out what was going on again, the reason I would be taken out of the story is that it felt choppy to me when it was switching between the characters. They should have been some sort of marker showing when it switched the focus.
The part that kept my attention the most was the Tessa/Jem/Will scenes. There is so much tension and I am smack in the middle of it with my heart. I don't know the right answer, because someone gets hurt, or Jem has to finally die. Which would suck. And may or may not be a part of this story. I don't know because when I wrote this part of the review I was only 200 pages in. Just a hunch of what will happen.
There were so many twists, hot scenes, amazing heart fluttering declarations that I didn't know what to do with myself for the last part though.
I think the ending was as perfect as I could possibly think of or imagine considering and it made me happy with the story.

Bottom Line: Slow in places but amazing ending.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Are you eager for the endings to sequels or put them off to savor?

  1. I still need to read Clockwork Prince. I've had a copy on my shelf forever, but I've just been putting it off. Sorry this was slow in the beginning for you!

  2. There are so many series and trilogy's ending this year. I still have Delirium's Requiem sitting on the shelf, I just don't want it to be over, so I keep putting it off. Glad you you enjoy this one. I keep putting it off too. :)

  4. I've only read the first 3 books in the Mortal Instruments series but I think I should give Infernal Devices a try. Thanks for your review!

  5. Yeah, the beginning was a little slow. I have friends who even gave up early on. I absolutely loved the book though and loved how it wrapped up. I was definitely more concerned with the triangle more than anything. lol Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  8. I haven't started this series. I can't do love triangles and this one sounds intense from what everyone says.

It seems that most people were please with how the series ended so that's a good thing.

  9. Oh gosh, I just don't know why I don't want to read this. I loved CA and CP when I read them, but looking back, I don't feel as enthusiastic. I just know that I am not going to like how this ends, especially the love triangle, which felt forced to me.
I'm glad you loved the ending. Great review, Brandi!

  10. Which do you like better, the Infernal Devices series or the Mortal Instruments series?

  11. I haven't read either of these series, but I do want to start Mortal Instruments soon.

When it comes to series I love, I tend to crave the ending and want to read it RIGHT AWAY.

  12. I hope to read the series one day

  13. I found the beginning of this one slow too, like you, I think it was memory issue. But the ending didn't sit well with me. Lovely review :)

  14. Every series feels different to me. I sometimes put off reading the final book (like Endlessly by Kiersten White) or I'd devour the book right when it comes out (like Clockwork Princess). I actually enjoyed this one a lot - I was extremely eager to find out if Will and Tess would be together at the end - and Jem is still one of my top fav :)

  16. The ending was.. OMG.. I CANNOT.. That ending totally killed me but I guess it was a win-win? So sad the story is over but.. it always ends, right? TT^TT

  17. I haven't read this series yet, cos I'm a bit frustrated with the author and to the long gaps between each book!! I love the MI series, but I hate the waiting game.... I want to know the ending already and I think I am at that stage with some series that I wait until they are all out before beginning it!

  18. I am with Naomi, I do get frustrated waiting as well, so I've waited on all the Infernal Devices to come out before I will start this one. I'm so over waiting on the next Mortal Instruments book. I do plan on reading this series, but I haven't started it just yet. I'm sorry that it was so slow for you in the beginning. That gets very tiresome. Thanks for sharing! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  20. I heard so many wonderful things about this author but haven't read it yet. I'm curious to try it to see how it is.

  22. I agree with you, I adored the ending, though I know a lot of people had problems with the afterword, I thought it was perfect. I mean I always knew Tessa lives as long as Magnus, she shows up in TMI in the distance, so that's not a spoiler. So I want her to be happy beyond the lives of everyone in this story, and I think this ending achieved that. Beautiful review!

  23. I think this was the best ending to a series ever. So far, this is my favorite read of 2013 hands down. Sorry you didnt love it as much as I did, but I'm glad you liked the ending!
