Tia Silverthorne Bach's Bio:
Tia Silverthorne Bach is an avid reader, sometimes runner, involved wife and mother, and rabid grammar hound in addition to being a multi-genre writer. Her three daughters were born in Chicago, San Diego, and Baltimore; and she feels fortunate to have called many places home. She's the award-winning co-author of Depression Cookies, a coming of age story written with her mother. Tia's office is wherever her laptop takes her and any place that's conducive to allowing a wild imagination like hers to flourish.

--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.

A family camping trip gone horribly wrong.Haunting dreams. Can 17 year old Reagan figure out the truth of that night before it’s too late?

--How did you get the idea for the story?

My daughter and all her friends love the paranormal genre, and it made me wonder. Do they believe any of it could be real? If something devastating happened to them, something that wasn’t easily explained, would they consider that what they read in books could actually exist? I really wanted to play with those questions.

--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?

I’d most like to have dinner with Reagan’s Nana. She is a woman who will do anything for her family, even if it means they will turn away from her.

--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?

Book 2 is in my head and partially on paper. I hope to have it out by the end of the year or first part of 2014. In it, Reagan begins to discover that everything that’s happened to her was part of a plan—not just a random tragedy.

--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?

I make time to read. My love of books is what led me to want to be a writer. I love so many books, in fact, that it’s hard for me to narrow down my favorites. However, my most recent favorite was MarkusZusak’sThe Book Thief. It’s a powerful book.

--If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?

That’s a hard one, because I like character-driven stories that grab my heart and won’t let go. Most of those characters’ lives are hard enough to read because of my emotional attachment, so I can’t imagine the intensity of experiencing them in reality. However, I would take a day as Clary Fray from the City of Bones. I’d want to be there the day she realizes she can see what others cannot.

--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist- songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?

One song is always playing in my head when I write my main characters… Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. There’s something about that song that screams strength. It powers me up, if you will, to infuse my characters with the necessary strength to face whatever challenge I’m creating for them.And almost anything by Pink (to bring it back to current music).

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

The ability to read others’ thoughts. I can’t think of a better way to build an arsenal of characters and story possibilities.Although, it might feel more like a curse on a bad hair day.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?

Read. So many books, so little time. I also spend time with my husband and three daughters (13, 11 & 8).

--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?

Chase your dreams. So many times I let my conservative, practical nature take over. I’ve always wanted to write novels, but I talked myself out of it for way too long. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Sometimes you just have to take a risk.

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?

Share the books you love with other readers, whether you leave a review or tell your friends. Books are the gift that keep on giving.
