Review: A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers

A Little Too Much (A Little Too Far, #2)
A Little Too Much (A Little Too Far #2) by Lisa Desrochers
In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers’ explosive New Adult novel A Little too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he loved and left behind.
Twenty-two year old Hilary McIntyre would like nothing more than to forget her past. As a teenager abandoned to the system, she faced some pretty dark times. But now that’s all behind her. Hilary has her life on track, and there’s no way she’ll head back down that road again.
Until Alessandro Moretti—the one person who can make her remember—shows up on her doorstep. He’s even more devastatingly gorgeous than before, and he’s much too close for comfort. Worse, he sees right through the walls she’s built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she’s guarding.
As Hilary finds herself falling back into love with the man who, as a boy both saved and destroyed her, she must decide. Past or future? Truth or lies?

I wanted to read this one because I fell hard for Alessandro in A Little Too Much, and though I knew that it wasn't his time and place to get a happy ending, I still wanted for him to face the ghosts of his past, and hopefully find a person who is in love with him as much as he was with Lexie. I also loved the hot romances that Lisa writes as far back as Personal Demons.
I got what I wanted and more in A Little Too Much. We get to meet Hilary, who we know had a past with Alessandro. I like that I got to know her away from Alessandro first. In her element. She is a singer looking for a job on Broadway and trying to forget her past. She is fiesty, knows how to protect herself, and seems to have it all together. But when Alessandro comes on the scene some of her insecurities and pain that she's tried to hide comes to the surface because it is obvious he's hurt her. I don't remember if Alessandro told Lexie the details, but if he did, I didn't remember, but that is okay, because they slowly unfold in this one. Between hot encounters where Lexie is trying to get the upperhand but ends up just feeling this explosive chemistry with him.
I like Hilary's background. I don't think that I have read anything with her particular talents. She was on American Idol and she is a great actor but not so much as a dancer. But her in is the American Idol, so she has been doing no so hot on auditions, but is hoping for a big break. I have never really been on the broadway or acting scene so its def fun to read about.
A Little Too Much surprised me in many ways, but I think that it all worked in my head. I like the chemistry between Hilary and Alessandro as well as watching them figure out life as a new adult and the balance between letting the past teach you and make you grow and letting it still rule over you even when you think that you have totally squashed and conquered.
The ending was good although I def wouldn't object to a novella or more time with Hilary and Alessandro to see what happens after, just because I want more of them and fell in love.

Bottom Line: Steamy romance where I loved uncovering their pasts.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Could you date someone who left you but came back years later?

  6. I don't remember about the details either. Though, I must say that Alessandro was just messing with my ship, so I wasn't his biggest fan. Idk why, but this story isn't calling out to me like the first or the third book. I'm surprised by the American Idol plotline O_O Didn't expect that. I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I'm still going to skip this I think. Thanks for sharing. Have a great Valentine's Day, Brandi:)

  9. I've heard of the first one but didn't know about a sequel! Glad you liked it. And heck no, unless the guy had a super great reason for leaving.

  11. Lol, funny question for me right now. I would say it depends on why they left. And how heartbroken I was, if I understood their reason for leaving.

Sounds like you really loved this one. I have the first book but haven't read it. Obviously I know who she ends up, but I've already read that in the synopsis for this book so no surprise. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
