Review: Kiss of Death by Rachel Caine

Kiss of Death (The Morganville Vampires #8) by Rachel Caine
A new chapter in the New York Times bestselling Morganville Vampires saga.
Vampire musician Michael Glass has attracted the attention of a big- time producer who wants to cut a demo and play some gigs-which means Michael will have to enter the human world. For this, he's been assigned escorts that include both a dangerous immortal as well as Michael's all-too-human friends. And with that mix of personalities, this is going to be a road trip from hell...

I wanted to read this one because I have been hardcore addicted to this series, and it is so nice that they are all released and I don't have to play the waiting game.

I love the pink laundry, the softer side of Eve even though its hard to see her insecure and not fully understanding where things stand, not only with Michael but with her newly reformed brother. I did enjoy seeing Michael in his element with the rock star deal, but he seemed more distant in this one and I was afraid that I would lose the caring, protective and cuddly Michael to the hardened vampire persona.

One quote I love though that describes the development of Shane's character and how being in love and living out his protective streak is changing him. (from Michael) "Huh. The universe explodes, hell freezes over and Shane does something reasonable." It just so fits their dynamic perfectly...

What started out and what they hoped would be a nice taste of freedom from Morganville and a good time with friends, of course, couldn't be just that with this group of friends. They found trouble in so many ways. Some of it their escort helped them get into and others they did just fine getting into it all own their own.

There were some steamy moments with Shane and Claire to keep me going. And Myrnin was there for part of it, and I love our crazy vamp. Claire mentioned at one point in time that he was both mad and brilliant, and it battled which would exhibit in any given moment.

The ending was perfect but bittersweet. As many of you may have guessed, I will def be continuing this series. And soon.

Bottom Line: The trouble they always seemed to find had me on my toes.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Any dreams of being a rockstar? Or traveling with one?

  1. I loved seeing them outside of Morganville too, though of course they still get into trouble, haha. I'd love to travel with one, being on the road, seeing different cities/countries, definitely my thing.

  3. An author/series I've been readings lots of favourable things about, I'm glad you are still enjoying the books in what is another lengthy set.

  5. You're right back on the Morganville Vampires train I see! Good, because no offense, but your recent picks were starting to depress me. It's rare that a book 8 gets a 5-star rating, so Rachel Caine is clearly on the ball! I have absolutely no desire, nor have I ever for that matter, to be a rockstar or travel with one. Fame is NOT my thing.

  8. I agree, Brandi, this series is really well done, and the softer side to Eve is awesome. I love how she has to deal with so many different things in The Kiss of Death :)
Also, I'm very happy you continue to love the Morganville series.
    Have a fantastic week.

  10. This is great! Sometimes I have a hard time liking old YA series because either my taste has changed or it has old trends that I dislike like love triangle and insta love. I guess this is fast becoming a classic huh

  16. I turned my laundry pink just a few weeks ago. I sympathize greatly.
The dreams of being a rock star are there, but buried deep because I sound alarmingly like Taylor Swift or any one of those vanilla pop singers when I belt, which is shameful. I stick to my choral singing, where i actually sound good. (I think I do, at least)

  17. I'm glad to know that Shane and Claire continues through this series! For a moment there, I thought she was going to totally kill this pairing.

  35. I don't remember much of this book, but someday I'll have to finish the series. I'm pretty sure I read this one though and there was drama with Michael & Eve because of this stardom. Great that you're able to read one right after the other. I always wanted a pair of the vampire bunny slippers Myrnin wore. He was one of my favorite characters! Fab review, Brandi! :)

  36. I love this series! As they change POV's in the later books, it took me a minute to get used to the different style, but this series is definitely one of my favorites! I'm down to reading the last two! Hope you enjoy the rest of this series!
