Adult Review: Succubus Dreams by Richelle Mead

Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid #3) by Richelle Mead

Some days, a girl just can't catch a break...
First, Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from seducing men, can't have sex with her gorgeous bestselling author boyfriend Seth Mortensen--in case she inadvertently kills him. Second, Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block. Third, someone's manipulating her dreams, draining her energy and supplying eerie visions of her future. Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused--especially as the situation with Seth reaches a crisis point. Georgina needs to rein in her out-of-control love life and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind. Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again...

I wanted to read Succubus Dreams because I loved Georgina and Seth in the first two books. They have a unique relationship since he is human and she is an immortal succubus. That means she feeds on other men, corrupting the good in order to keep her life force. But her and Seth have a mostly hands off policy, because she doesn't want to steal his energy. Seth is a writer and in his writing he is witty, eloquent and wordy, in his face to face interpersonal, he is quieter, shy, and his words aren't as many. But he is a strong man, he loves Georgina fiercely and he accepts the less than savory parts of being a succubus, and doesn't get jealous, much.

I love how Seth wants truth and honesty-- a baring of souls--as part of a healthy relationship. Georgina doesn't always want to open up about her past, especially her mortal life. It isn't always so much that she wants to keep it from him, but that she doesn't like to dwell on it, because she made some mistakes and it cost her and to protect those she loved, she gave up her soul. But talking about her past comes up in this one, and while Seth doesn't push her hard, he does ask, and hope for answers.

The new plot lines in this one involves a new succubus in town coming with her the third person she really fears (the first of course, being Lilith and the second her high immortal demon boss Jerome). There is also, as the title suggests, a plot line dealing with dreams.

We got a whole new view of their relationship in this one because something happened to Seth and he started thinking about his life and what he wanted to experience and what he didn't want to miss.

It leads them into a whole new areas especially with their service he knew how much they could get away with what sex they were like teenagers honestly and created so much tension and chemistry between them and I love those scenes. I totally understand where both of them were coming from though because Georgina just wanted to protect him so so much and Seth just wanted to be with her he loved her on so many different levels but Hugh also was a part of what was going on in Seth's mind. He was telling us about the way the Georgia and it would probably hurt after Seth was gone and sure enough it is been on Georgina's mind a lot about what was going to happen she was terrified that something was going to happen to him like he hurt his leg and she went crazy and then they would be even bigger incident and all she could really think about was how fragile his life is and it really scared her but it also want to take advantage of all the time that she had with him while on the other way sis was now thinking about that about how short his life was compared to Georgina and he started struggling with that because he didn't want her to hurt on such a big level.

We get to see more of Eric in this one eric is a human but he knows so much about the cousin paddle an angel and demons and all the other paranormal that inhabit this world that they're in. We realize that there's another human that specializes in dreams and Georgina goes to see him and it turns out that he is a an enemy or well once a friend of Eric and its at the whole new level to the storytelling because we don't really know what happened between the two but Eric care enough about Georgina to send her to Dante who is the dream reader when Georgina go to see him it seems like at first all he's interested in is getting a lay her. Really start to doubt some of his capabilities because she sees him left on some of the sum of his customers he sits claims to be a psychic and also palm reader and tarot card reader and she can tell by read the deck that he's completely telling the people who come to see him what they want to hear rather than what the card show but as Georgina keeps going to see him he reveals the places where he actually has some talent and he really start to care about Georgina and he's intrigued about what's going on with her because she's losing energy and she's having these really really vivid dreams and they're just wondering what kind of force is going on in the the diamond world well also the angel world because Carter has friends in this one and they're obviously searching for something.

Because going back to the relationship between Georgina and Seth there of course still in love but with all of the things going on and all of the doubts and fear of hurting the other person creepin in its not all like this honeymoon phase anymore and in some ways that's sad but in other ways we get to see the depth of their feelings for each other and we get to see them learning problem solving skills and they're even more real because they're having to deal with all of these day today issues like when Seth gets wrapped up in his writing and he completely lose track of time or Jordan is having to go and get her life worse from being with other men it is hard and on some level totally accepts her Peter it's hard to see Georgia to be with other guys and they just have such a longing to really be with each other and explore each others bodies and show each other love in a whole other area.

So... yeah there is a place in the book that completely broke my heart and I know it had to have broke Georgina's as well. I know it shouldn't because it's totally not fair concerning the circumstances of what georgina has to do to live. I mean she even gave them permission to do it but still maybe it's just who it was. Then again maybe me and georgina as well just had him on a pedestal that he shouldn't been on. Guess it's just a sign up how good a writer she is or maybe just that she writes in the way that I feel emotionally but I wanted to hit something and obviously it hurt georgina as well and it was hard watching her feel that and also to weigh the consequences that she's an immortal and going back to the things I was talking about earlier where they have to make hard choices and she is in this unique position of juggling loving him and losing him.
Then there was a scene with one of the angels and it was really hard to see them make such a selfless but selfish choice of the same time. But it served a good purpose in showing that everyone has to make their own decisions and even if you don't agree with everything that they're deciding that you have to support them whenever you love them.

Wow just wow that ending was I don't even have words for it right now I just finished it and my heart is feeling like it's put through the wringer something right now because yeah. I'm an emotional wreck and I feel so sorry for Georgina dude yeah like a friend contemporary depressing books lately and while they make me feel something... this actually made me feel like my heart waa going to break.
I can see a few threads especially with Carter in the whole conversation that kept going on about how contracts can have a loophole makes me really wonder what the next book is going to bring.

Really have no idea where she's going to take this because everything with the family and her vision because even though they seemed impossible it made you hope so much in a few things the Carter is just sad about her and I don't still know where the next book is going to go and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

So I can definitely see a pattern in her writing because I remember feeling like this and Vampire Academy and really just wondering how she was going to salvage the relationship with rose and Dimitri and it gives me hope because she really into that in such a way that just made me so satisfied and remembered the relationship in the story of the two so I have to really trust that she can do it again with this.

Bottom Line: Emotional wreck after ending, 1st delivers with the wit, the cute romance and all I loved in the first two.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Could you be with an immortal if you were a mortal or vice versa?
