forget-her-not
Laurel, 14, is a new student at her recently deceased mother's alma mater, a Virginia girls' boarding school. She prepares a presentation on the Victorian language of flowers for her English class and finds that she has a special affinity for the subject. Strong flower scents, some of them undetectable to anyone else, suddenly make her feel "spinny, dizzy, and tingly." If she recites a little verse her mother used to say, "Bright cut flowers, leaves of green, bring about what I have seen," the flowers seem to actualize the sentiments they are meant to symbolize. This is a fine thing when the tussie-mussie Laurel makes for her class presentation apparently causes her teacher, known to the students as Spinster Spenser, to fall in love and marry, but not quite so benign when the bouquets she makes for classmates fall into the wrong hands and attract or repel unintended recipients. Sylvia Suarez, a science teacher, keeper of the school conservatory, and Laurel's mother's onetime classmate, gradually informs the teen that they are both part of a society of "Flowerspeakers," a group that also included Laurel's mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. For centuries, these women have possessed powers similar to Laurel's and will now help her learn to use her own gift. Although the fantasy elements of this novel are not convincing or successful, the book will appeal to fans of boarding-school stories and gentle teen romances.—Ginny Gustin, Sonoma County Library System, Santa Rosa, CA

What to read after Twilight
Here's a video- and there's text below if you prefer:
Have you read Twilight and have the reading fever now? I was in that situation not too long ago, and here are some suggestions of what I enjoyed!
--Vampire Academy series Richelle Mead- Two years after a horrible incident made them run away, vampire princess Lissa and her guardian-in-training Rose are found and returned to St. Vladimir's Academy, where one focuses on mastering magic, the other on physical training, while both try to avoid the perils of gossip, cliques, gruesome pranks, and sinister plots.
--The Light of Asteria: Kailmeyra's Last Hope by Elizabeth Isaacs: If Nora Johnson hadn't been on campus she would've never known her destiny. Helping her friends move, Nora meets Gavin Frey. His touch unleashes a power within, and she's now captivated by his presence. But he's not who he claims to be. And there are others. Others who fear the power of love, who haunt her dreams. Others who want her dead. Is she strong enough to survive?
--City of Bones by Clare- When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
--Poison study and series by Snyder- Yelena, about to be executed, is offered the job of food taster to the Commander of Ixia, but politics and magic keep threatening her life. Has romance, and a strong heroine. (Storm glass and series too!)
--Uglies by Westerfield- Just before their sixteenth birthdays, when they will will be transformed into beauties whose only job is to have a great time, Tally's best friend runs away and Tally must find her and turn her in, or never become pretty at all.
--Graceling by Cashore- In a world where some people are born with extreme and often-feared skills called Graces, Katsa struggles for redemption from her own horrifying Grace, the Grace of killing, and teams up with another young fighter to save their land from a corrupt king. Romance and strong heroine
--Sword of truth series by Goodkind- Wizard’s first rule is the first one. An unearthly adversary descends on an idyllic fantasy world, corrupting magic against good and slaughtering innocents, and only a single man can stop him.
--Hunger games and Catching Fire by Collins- In a future North America, where the rulers of Panem maintain control through an annual televised survival competition pitting young people from each of the twelve districts against one another, sixteen-year-old Katniss's skills are put to the test when she voluntarily takes her younger sister's place.
--Harry Potter by Rowling- Rescued from the outrageous neglect of his aunt and uncle, a young boy with a great destiny proves his worth while attending Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
--Eragon by Paolini- In Alagaesia, a fifteen-year-old boy of unknown lineage called Eragon finds a mysterious stone that weaves his life into an intricate tapestry of destiny, magic, and power, peopled with dragons, elves, and monsters.
--Jessica’s guide to dating the dark side by Fantaskey- Seventeen-year-old Jessica, adopted and raised in Pennsylvania, learns that she is descended from a royal line of Romanian vampires and that she is betrothed to a vampire prince, who poses as a foreign exchange student while courting her.
--Evermore (and series) by Noel- Since the car accident that claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras and hear people's thoughts, and she goes out of her way to hide from other people until she meets Damen, another psychic teenager who is hiding even more mysteries.
--Marked (and series) by PC Cast- Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird is Marked as a fledging vampyre and joins the House of Night where she will train to become an adult vampyre.
--Vampire Diaries LJ Smith- the tale of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.
--kissed by an Angel- Elizabeth Chandler
-Academy 7 by Anne Osterlund: Aerin Renning and Dane Madousin struggle as incoming students at the most exclusive academy in the Universe, both hiding secrets that are too painful to reveal, not realizing that those very secrets link them together.
--Shiver --For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human ... until the cold makes him shift back again.
Stuff I have read and liked but havent put in descriptions:
Minder by Kaynak, Fallen by Lauren Kate, Iron King by Kagawa, Beautiful Creatures, Gone by Grant, hush hush, north of beautiful, skin hunger and series, secret circle by smith, night world by smith, The mark Nadol, Dark Guardian trilogy by Hawthorne, Hex Hall by Hawkins, Born at Midnight by Hunter, Angefire by Moulton, Return the Heart by Richardson, Amber Frost by Davis, Personal Demons by Deroschers, Taken by Storm by Morrison, Unearthly by Hand, Nightshade by Cramer, Summoning by Armstrong
