Review: The Sowing by Steven dos Santos

The Sowing (The Torch Keeper, #2)
The Sowing (The Torch Keeper #2) by Steven dos Santos
This time, there are no choices.
Lucian “Lucky” Spark leads a double life. By day, he trains to become one of the Establishment elite. At night, he sabotages his oppressors from within, seeking to avenge the murder of his love, Digory Tycho, and rescue his imprisoned brother.
But when he embarks on a risky plot to assassinate members of the Establishment hierarchy, Lucky is thrust into the war between the Establishment and the rebellion, where the lines between friend and foe are blurred beyond recognition. His only chance for survival lies in facing the secrets of the Sowing, a mystery rooted in the ashes of the apocalyptic past that threatens to destroy Lucky’s last hope for the future.

I wanted to read The Sowing because I liked the Culling, I remember it being emotional and the world building was chilling but addictive. I went in not remembering much else, but it did a decent recap and I got into the story. Lucky is living a double life and we get to see him in his new position trying to right some of the wrongs of the government.
While I liked Lucky, I just didn't connect with him as much in this one. I wanted to know what happened to him and Cole especially, which is why I stuck with this one, but I skimmed a lot, I must admit.
The world building didn't seem to be there in this one, it was all political which may be why I didn't like it as much. There were a lot of betrayals and characters that did things I def did not want them to or expect from the last book.
Unfortunately, I don't think that I will continue with this series.

Bottom Line: Didn't live up to expectations.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Do you think you could be a double agent?

I see that this one suffers form second book syndrome.:(

I don't think I could be double agent, too much stress.

  3. I remember seeing the first book in this series around but it's too bad that the second wasn't as good as the first. Great review, Brandi :)

  4. Sorry to hear that :( But when it does not work then it's better to give up a series

  6. I seldom enjoy stories that particularly focus on political tension so I can imagine why this installment didn't impress you quite as much as the first one. Double agent? I don't think so... I'm more an open book type of person. Thanks, Brandi!

  9. Oh this is a bummer, what a shame! Sorry you didn't love this one. I don't think I have the skills to be a double agent, I'd probably giggle the first time I tried to lie. :-)

  11. I'm sorry this one was a dud, Brandi. The expectations are always high for a sequel when you enjoyed the first one, and it's sad when the sequel doesn't live up to those expectations. Hopefully your current read is fantastic. :)
