Parallel by Lauren Miller
Abby Barnes had a plan. The Plan. She'd go to Northwestern, major in journalism, and land a job at a national newspaper, all before she turned twenty-two. But one tiny choice—taking a drama class her senior year of high school—changed all that. Now, on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Abby is stuck on a Hollywood movie set, miles from where she wants to be, wishing she could rewind her life. The next morning, she's in a dorm room at Yale, with no memory of how she got there. Overnight, it's as if her past has been rewritten.
With the help of Caitlin, her science-savvy BFF, Abby discovers that this new reality is the result of a cosmic collision of parallel universes that has Abby living an alternate version of her life. And not only that: Abby's life changes every time her parallel self makes a new choice. Meanwhile, her parallel is living out Abby's senior year of high school and falling for someone Abby's never even met.
As she struggles to navigate her ever-shifting existence, forced to live out the consequences of a path she didn't choose, Abby must let go of the Plan and learn to focus on the present, without losing sight of who she is, the boy who might just be her soul mate, and the destiny that's finally within reach.

--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
After parallel worlds collide, Abby wakes up in a new reality every time her younger parallel self makes life altering decision.
--Which character would you most/least like to have dinner with?
I'd most like to have dinner with Dr. Mann, the old, Einstein-esque astrophysics professor who helps Abby navigate her predicament.
I'd least like to have dinner with Ben, Abby's roommate's boyfriend. He likes to hear himself talk, and that kind of person really gets on my nerves.
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
i just turned in my second book to my editor. It's a stand alone contemporary with sci-fi elements just like Parallel, but it's more of a thriller. It'll be out early next year!
--What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar kind of read, set-up or style)
Some people have said that Parallel reminds them a little of Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall. I love that book, so I take that as a huge compliment! I'd probably also throw Cat Patrick and Suzanne Young's Just Like Fate in there!
--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
I don't have as much time as I'd like, but I certainly have more time now than I did when I was practicing law (which is what I did before I started writing). My favorite recent book is Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay. Right now I'm reading an ARC of Tandem by Anna Jarzab and really loving it!
--If a fairy godmother told you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. It takes place in 19th century France, my favorite time period. I love the art, the culture, the clothes and the parties! I'd love to be in Emma Bovary's shoes for 24 hours (before her downward spiral).
--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Hmm. That's a hard one. Maybe the ability to transport myself places in the blink of an eye.
--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
You don't know what you want to do with your life, so stop pretending you do.
--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
If you read Parallel, pay attention to the dates that begin every chapter! They're important.
