Review: Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton

Wings of the Wicked (Angelfire, #2)
Wings of the Wicked (Angelfire #2) by Courtney Allison Moulton
Life as the Preliator is harder than Ellie ever imagined.
Balancing real life with the responsibility of being Heaven’s warrior is a challenge for Ellie. Her relationship with Will has become all business, though they both long for each other. And now that the secret of who she really is has come out, so have Hell’s strongest reapers. Grown bold and more vicious, the demonic threaten her in the light of day and stalk her in the night.
She’s been warned.
Cadan, a demonic reaper, comes to her with information about Bastian’s new plan to destroy Ellie’s soul and use an ancient relic to wake all the souls of the damned and unleash them upon humanity. As she fights to stay ahead of Bastian’s schemes , the revelations about those closest to her awaken a dark power within Ellie that threatens to destroy everything—including herself.
She’ll be betrayed.
Treachery comes even from those whom she loves, and Ellie is broken by the deaths of those who stood beside her in this Heavenly war. Still, she must find a way to save the world, herself, and her love for Will. If she fails, there will be hell to pay.

I enjoyed this one, but not as much as the first book.
First, what I didn't like. Wasn't so much a fan if the constant action I this one. Felt like to much. Also frustrated with Ellie for awhile about flippant way she seemed to regard the safety of those she loved although I guess she had to  learn the lesson hard way and by the end, I saw so much growth and change in her.
There were a couple of secondary characters that I enjoyed. Marcus was one of them. He made me smile. Also, Her conversations with Nathaniel were a bright spot. I was also pretty intigued with Cadan and what his angle was. I liked their banter though, and the scenes he was in.
Loved the romance. This was something that did not change. I fawn over Will and he was as amazing and dedicated as I remembered from the first.
I will def be reading the 3rd soon, in fact, already on the wait list from the library, because I was left hanging, and I have to know what is going to happen.

Bottom Line: Good second book with a few issues.

  7. I actually really did not care for the first Angelfire book because there wasn't enough action, which seems like the opposite problem you are having! Hope you get yours hands on the third soon!

  9. So many of my friends love this series and I always meant to give it a try. I'm sorry this didn't meet your expectations, but at least it wasn't a complete disappointment. Romance saves the day! :)

  12. I've been thinking of grabbing this series... thanks for sharing what you liked and disliked with us. If this series has some remarkable secondary characters, I think I'll give it a go. Thanks for sharing :)

  13. Don't think I ever felt compelled to read this series, but it's great that you felt connected to the secondary characters! Most of the time they just fade into the background, so we forget about them easily. Sorry this wasn't as greats the first book, but glad that it was still enjoyable overall. Hope the third is even better!

  14. Aw, I'm sorry to hear that this didn't quite meet your expectations. I've read the Angelfire but it didn't work for me. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the third one!

  15. I didn't enjoy Angelfire that much so I didn't even bother continuing the series. I know a lot of people really love it, but I think it's just not for me. It's too bad that the second one wasn't as good as the first for you though. Hopefully the third is more up to par.

  20. Glad you enjoyed this enough to keep going with the series, despite your issues with book two. I really enjoyed these books and am having trouble remembering book two exactly, but I do remember loving the romance (Will! *swoon*) and the banter with Cadan too. Great review, can't wait to hear what you think of book 3!

  22. I love side characters and witty banter! I definitely look for those in books. I understand about the second books not being as good as the first, but overall this series looks like a good one. Thank you for sharing! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  23. Bah! Book 2 wasn't even on my horizons. I had some issues with the first one, so still not sure if I will pick this one up. Thanks for the honesty on the issues!
