Giveaway and Interview: Exclusive $25 Amazon Gift card and Grim Crush by S.L. Bynum

Grim Crush by S.L. Bynum

1. Do not interfere with someone’s death.
2. Do not become emotionally involved.
3. Do not show yourself to the living.
As a grim reaper, seventeen-year-old Xia has to follow these Rules. But when she meets Shilah, a Native American boy who can see reapers, she figures the rules don’t apply. To find out why he can see her, she pretends to be human, since carrying a scythe probably isn’t the latest teen craze. Things become unnerving as she begins experiencing first-time affection with Shilah, but she’s irreversibly drawn to him. Suddenly Xia finds herself breaking Rule Two, even while collecting dead souls behind Shilah’s back. It isn’t long before she is caught red-handed by the Angel of Death himself, and then not only is her relationship at risk, but also Shilah’s soul. And this leaves Xia wondering: can love overcome Death?

Author Bio: S. L. Bynum knew she had a creative imagination as a kid, when she would make her beanie babies go on the craziest adventures. She fell in love with writing at the age of twelve, when she wrote a rendition of The Three Little Pigs for her little brother’s homework assignment. She realized she wanted a career as an author at the age of sixteen, and when she’s not working on that dream, she works in a clothing store. S. L. Bynum is twenty-four now and besides books, she loves desserts, fashion, dancing (when she’s alone), warm weather, and playing video games. She lives in Greensboro, North Carolina with her family.

--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less. Xia, a seventeen-year-old grim reaper, won’t let even Death stand in her way as she breaks the Rules of Reaping by falling for a human boy.

--How did you get the idea for the story?
I remember reading a Terry Pratchett novel featuring a grim reaper character, and I started thinking, what if a grim reaper wasn’t the usual stereotype? What if it was female instead of male, and wore a dress instead of a black robe? And then I liked the idea of a female grim reaper falling in love with a human, and I was like “This would be a paranormal romance novel. And paranormal romance is very popular these days. Plus mine is different from the usual human girl meets sexy vampire/shapeshifter/werewolf novels. I will tell the story from the non-human’s point-of-view.” So I wrote it.

--Which character would you most like to have dinner with? Probably my main character’s love interest, Shilah. Because he’s so hot! (And he has a sweet personality too.)

--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates? If all goes well, hopefully the Grim Crush sequel will be out next year!

--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read? I will always have time to read. However, I do a lot of writing-related stuff, plus I have a part-time job, so it probably takes me two or three weeks to finish one book. My favorites are the Harry Potter Series, The Legend of Drizzt novels by R. A. Salvatore, the Alice books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, and the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.

--If a fairy godmother said you could be put into the world of your favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Probably one of the Harry Potter books, so I can fly on a broom and cast spells with a wand!

--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Flying. I would love to travel around the world without paying for gas or an airplane ticket.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
Dance to music alone. I’m kind of nervous to do it around other people. I also love being outside, when it’s warm out. I probably watch too many TV shows as well.

--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self? When that guy you like asks you to the prom, don’t be shy. Say yes.

--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
I love making new friends so feel free to message me on Twitter or Facebook! Twitter: @WriterSLBynum Facebook: www.facebook.com/authorSLBynum.

  2. Ooh I like the sound of this! I haven't read a book involving grim reapers before, so this sounds like it could potentially be my first. I also like the way that she decided to break the usual stereotype and then she had a story idea! I think flying would be a great power to have ;)
