Teen Guide is an advice book that answers the important and confusing questions young people have about their bodies and their hearts.
--How did you get the idea for the story?
Teen Guide to Sex and Relationships is a non-fiction book I co-authored with Matt Posner. The book was originally Matt's idea.
As a teacher Matt sees young people every day who are going through a variety of troubles, most of which are related to relationships. It’s difficult for a teacher to directly intervene, but Matt thought he could make a difference as a writer. I really liked the idea of the project when Matt first mentioned it to me in late 2011. He was looking for a female writer to provide a “female perspective” to the book, since the book is structured in a simple Q&A format.
It turned out to be a great collaboration! We both believed in the project, where the goal was to provide a teen sex education that was insightful, helpful and informative.
--The book is written in a Q & A format. Did you ask teenagers to send in the questions for this book or did you just do research to find out what concerns teenagers have in this area?
The questions are based on informal knowledge and experience, with no attempt to be particularly "scientific." We wanted to provide mostly common-sense and basic information, written for those who know very little or are confused.
We enlisted the help of some teens who were kind enough to beta-read the first draft and provide us with some feedback. We ended up incorporating a couple of questions that were requested by the thoughtful and perceptive beta readers.

--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
I read classic books and tabloids most frequently. I peruse quite a steady supply of non-fiction too (business and historical/cultural books). I read everyday, even if it's just a page here and there...
--Do you have any other works in progress? Any teasers or release dates?
Matt is working on the third book in his YA fantasy about School of the Ages, America's greatest magic school. A recent Q&A he did with Katy Sozaeva provides an in-depth look at some of the fascinating themes in his project.
I'm currently working on a "seven virtues" anthology (to counter a "seven deadly sins" anthology I completed earlier in 2012). I'm aiming to complete The Cyberpunk Elven Trilogy by Fall 2012 (an urban fantasy set in the near future, featuring cyberpunk elves).

--If a fairy godmother told you your life could be like a favorite book for 24 hours, which book would you pick and why?
Probably Dragon's Blood by Jane Yolen. The setting of the book is totally fantastical, futuristic, engaging. The characters are super original and will stay with you for the rest of time after you've put down the book. It ignited my love for dragons (I own the all-things-draconian website, www.dragonsinn.net)!
It could be a tie between that book and Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle (for similar reasons)...
--Do you need anything to write (music, coffee, etc)? Are there any songs on your playlist - songs that inspired you or that were playing while you wrote?
I like listening to music when I'm formatting (i.e. when I'm doing something tedious). Right now I'm listening to a lot of CCR, Tina Turner and James Brown. I listen to a lot of rock, classical, and dance/electronica tracks.
As for condiments, I favor tea and/or chocolate over coffee :D
--If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I'd want to be a "benevolent despot" that took good care of my minions.

--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
I like to live a (relatively) healthy lifestyle and keep fit. I get lethargic and moody if I don't get a little bit of physical exercise everyday.
--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers?
Thanks to all of you who are checking this out--both new and old readers :)

Vanilla or chocolate? Double chocolate chip

Salty or sweet? Sweet

Great book! This would help young readers learn more about relationships especially those that involve sexual activities.
